An alternate reality where Cheers stars Fred Dwyer and Julia Duffy is just mind boggling. I can see Duffy pulling off though. She was hilarious on Newhart.
Great episode fellas!
Chris
Ashford is one of my favorite people in podcasting, so of course I enjoyed this.
One of the things about this Cheers rewatch is how many of the guest stars are recognizable as (usually later) fixtures of the television landscape.
Sam Malone is a lot more educated than he lets on if he throws the word balalaika around.
Speaking of education, no one but me thought the “tie my shoe” scene was a corruption of the end of The Taming of the Shrew? No? Okay.
Oh man, I didn’t think of The Taming of the Shrew but now that you point it out, duh-doy!
I am Diane’s people, you know.
Whoa, that is such a good call, Siskoid! Well done!
So is Norm’s tab purely a consumption log? Because I’m pretty sure his boss way paying in this one. (A separate log of the number of free beers he talks himself into would be amusing, but, of course, also more work…)
I wonder how this episode would have gone down if it was done in the social media age. I’d guess people would be OK with Diane hitting Sam, but I’m not sure how they’d feel about him hitting back, their fights in this, and in later episodes such as “I’ll be seeing you” would have to be either non existent or much tamer.
It was great to hear Ashford’s take on the episode and Cheers in general. A fresh perspective is always welcome, a good counterpoint to mouthing along with the dialog. Great podcast, you barflies. 🙂
