Great episode, as always. I love that you go in depth on the episodes with only a few tangents that actually relate back to the show! The Roger Rees story was a nice preview of coming attractions. I did notice that your guest mentioned that IMDB lists James Burrows as directing all the two Cheers episodes. That can’t be correct. In season eight, Andy Ackerman directed a run of episodes, and he directed a few in other seasons as well. John Ratzenberger and George Wendt each directed at least one episode. I know that’s not a substantive moment of the episode, but it stayed on my mind. I’m starting season 10 in my second consecutive rewatch, and it’s fun to go back to memories of the early episodes. Thanks for doing this!
Thanks for your comment, Marlene. I didn’t correct Robert on the show, but I was pretty sure there were more than two episodes that Burrows didn’t direct (Robert might’ve been speaking hyperbolically). Still, I wasn’t quite sure the exact number, but I thought it was between five and ten episodes that featured other directors. I had no idea Ackerman directed so many (18 according to imdb!!!).
For the co-plots, I have one observation each. “Moonglow.” The story of Norm’s shorts being pulled down in a wrestling match. Back then, wrestling uniforms were exclusively singlets, so there should not be a separate pair of shorts to pull down. That’s a lot of Norm to see! Augh!
Dianne shows once again that she’s a full-on english major nerd. She’s a complete fan girl to “Richard”, and it’s a delight to see her geek out. So take heart fellow listeners. Dianne is one of us.
