  1. Great episode, gentlemen. That being said, I do have to take issue with Diane’s assessment of a dolphin’s ability to take on a bear. I’ll bet on the dolphin every time, if the conflict occurs in the water. Don’t forget that, despite their cute and cuddly reputations, dolphins are highly intelligent and skilled predators. When sharks and dolphins meet in the wild, it is often the shark that comes out the loser. So, it ultimately comes down to which of them has the home advantage.

Oh dear! Now, I’m starting to sound like Cliff.

  2. I can’t imagine anyone not liking Paul, but I know where he’s coming from. Back in high school, there was a guy who was friends with some of my buddies, and for whatever reason, he just couldn’t stand me. I kept trying to get along with him and mend fences, but he wouldn’t budge. In fact, he got downright hostile about it, so I had to actually pull a Cliff, but I really was going to kick his ass. He backed down and never spoke to or about me again.

Years later, at my first real job out of college, I ran into a guy who ran very hot and cold with me. Some days he was fine with me, others he would just get really annoyed with me over what seemed like nothing, and he would let me know when I rubbed him wrong to boot. I ultimately wrote him off as being the problem, not me, and avoided him as best I could.

I need to watch this episode tonight, because obviously, I have some things to work through. 😉

  3. As a perennially socially awkward nerd, I have tons of anxiety about rubbing people the wrong way, not knowing how to talk to new people, and know that I *must* sound like Cliff all too often, so this episode hits really close to home. I’ve never been in a situation that went this far, but the anxiety is there pretty strongly.

I’m much older now, which means … I haven’t improved any, but just don’t sweat it as much. If I say the wrong thing, oh well, got more important things to worry about. So, progress?

Boy, the karate scene. I took Tae Kwon Do for 9 years in the 90s, and I did plenty of board breaking in the time, even working up to 3 boards deep with a side kick. What startles me about this scene is Cliff breaking the brick. I’ve never done that. A single 1-inch thick board, no big deal, a grown adult male can practically do that from mass alone. But he does a head butt thru the brick! A HEAD BUTT! Only one of my fellow martial artists did that move thru a single board, and he was … a little crazy. So even though it was fake for the show (I assume?), just considering that move makes me wince.

Basically, I completely understand Cliff wanting to go to the hospital afterwards.

    Loved the episode! Thanks, guys!
