  1. Yay! CheersCast and its Liberal Homo Commie agenda is back!

While I loved the show (obviously), I agree with Sean that it improved by expanding the world a bit, including more of the characters and the addition of Frasier Crane–a superb, one-in-a-million character played by the loathsome Kelsey Grammer.

And yes, the running bit with Coach’s tie is classic.

  2. Wikipedia time…

Kelsey Grammer has made several appearances as Dr. Frasier Crane outside of Cheers and Frasier.
    Mickey’s 60th Birthday (1988)
Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color Season 34, Episode 15, “Disneyland’s 35th Anniversary Celebration” (1990)
    The Earth Day Special (1990)
Wings Season 3, Episode 16, “Planes, Trains and Visiting Cranes” (1992)
The John Larroquette Show Season 3, Episode 1, “More Changes” (1995)
    Dr Pepper TV Commercial (2008)

An animated version of the character appears in The Simpsons episode “Fear of Flying”, although Grammer, who voices Sideshow Bob on the show, does not voice the character of Frasier. Whaaa?

As lately as February of this year, Grammer was touting a new Frasier show to drop in 2020, which of course will be delayed if it does come to pass. An extension on that 20 years in the same role!

  3. Great to have you back in the bar, Ryan!
You hypothesized Diane had to call Frasier before agreeing to go see Sam. I take that as a given seeing as how Frasier was already in the bar waiting for Sam to agree to see him.
It took a few seconds for it to click what was happening in the intervention scene. Seeing Frasier at the end of the bar with Cliff and Norm seemed so natural, I almost forgot we didn’t know who that was when this episode first aired.

  4. RYAN!! What do you say, Mr Daly? “Who was that masked man? And that masked man? And that …”

So glad to have Cheers Cast back, and starting Season 3. I’m with both Ryan and Sean on Frasier: an excellent addition to the cast, and new foil for the characters to play against.

I can’t help but compare him to Sumner. (Does Diane have a thing for 2-syllable names ending in “er”?) Frasier acts more intellectual and pompous, but being a psychiatrist, also more sympathetic and compassionate, and that’s how he works in Cheers. He’s smart enough to call out things that Diane usually had to, without seeming arrogant. And all kudos to Grammer for making it work. Love it.

A great start to the podcast S3!
