  1. The version of the “Kick her out of the bed” expression I’ve often heard in my area is a bit more baudy:

“I wouldn’t kick her out of bed, unless she wanted to do it on the floor”.

I told you it was a bit more baudy.

    1. I haven’t heard Chris’ version, but the ‘I wouldn’t kick her out of bed for eating crackers’ saying has been around for as long as I can remember. For the record, I have lived in Virginia all of my life, so it definitely isn’t a regional New England phrase. My first thought was, as Siskoid postulated, maybe it started with Cheers. After extensive research (i.e. a couple of minutes using Google) I found that it started at least in the 1950s.

  2. This trilogy (and the subsequent season premiere) aired as a 2hr ‘movie’ when I was a kid on some superstation and we taped it so I’ve seen probably more than almost any other episode or run of the show and it’s right below my all-time fave episode (still to come). Even the weakest bits still work for me. Frasier working on the Fleener campaign for example just added to Frasier’s lapdog status when it comes to Diane post-break-up (I also LOVE the “It’s quite Joyce-ian” line). I’ve even used that “Why else would she be there” line many many times.

Janet does make probably the best foil for Sam & Diane so it’s great that a) they cast someone as good as Kate Mulgrew and b) took the time to tell the story. The best scene from this whole story is still to come and I can’t wait.

  3. Kate Mulgrew is so good here. “Look what I give up for the people of this city.” Smart, charming, strong, just love her.

There’s been so many quiet endings this season, building to this story, that Diane’s final line is heartbreaking.
