  1. This kind of sounds like Planet of the Apes: The Musical.

But this cast does sound pure 70s. Was Elliott Gould busy when they cast this?

But you mentioned the musical version of Scrooge. I unabashedly LOVE that version (and the 1950s Alastair Sim non-musical version), and if you ever want to talk about that…Thank You Very Much!!!

  2. Interesting episode, gentlemen. The first thing that came to my mind as you were describing Lost Horizon: The Musical was Brigadoon. There’s well received musical where you have people from the modern world stumbling into a “magical” land that is cutoff from the rest of the world. Characters fall in love, and must decide whether or not to stay. If nothing else, it shows that the concept can work in a musical format.

Of course, that gets me wondering if Lost Horizon had any influence on Lerner and Loewe, when they were working on Brigadoon? The Lost Horizon novel came out in 1933 and the movie in 1937, while Brigadoon opened in 1947, so it would work timing-wise.
