No one wants you to just bash a film, episode after episode but this episode was just one of the funniest and most enjoyable episodes you’ve done yet.
One fun ape film done on the cheap though, A.P.E!
I saw this movie in the theater.
me and my friend howled in laughter through the whole movie.
but after listening to this, you make me want to watch it again…lol
Like Nicholas, I have fond memories of King Kong Lives from my childhood. Fortunately, I’ve never revisited it, and those memories remain intact. Thank you for confirming that I made the right decision to not rewatch this movie.
If either of you are serving a prison sentence at the moment, then it sounds like you should get at least 10 years off for the public service you performed by watching this one for the rest of us. Thank you.
I vaguely recall this movie. Not sure I ever made it through all of it. I’ve heard the expression “It’s on like Donkey Kong”, but never “Get it on like King Kong”. I do remember one particular rhyme about King Kong playing Ping-Pong…but it’s probably best to just leave that one alone.

I’d never even heard of this movie until this episode, but you guys really make me want to watch it! Sounds like a real hoot.
I remember watching this one at home with my brother after my father rented it. For reference, Kong ’33 is my father’s favorite film, so Kong ’76 was always something of a dark horse in my house growing up. KKL was a hoot when I was 7, but let’s just say I have not watched it since.
Some additional notes:
–There was an hour long hype show produced in the lead up to this film’s release entitled “King Kong! The Living Legend” hosted by Jonathan Winters. In addition to KKL it also hyped the then-new Kong attraction out at Universal Studios Hollywood. I remember Winters at one point holding a stop motion model of a T-Rex and explaining how stop motion worked, and then talking about how delicious a T-Rex would roast up. At the end he was having a conversation with the animatronic Kong from the backlot tour. We taped this one off of TV and had it for years, though where it is now I do not now.
–There was a Japanese Famicom (NES) game by Konami loosely based on this film entitled “King Kong 2: Ikari no Megaton Punch” (King Kong 2: Fury Of The Megaton Punch), It is an action game where Kong moves through multi-screen environments (like Legend of Zelda), throwing boulders, punching, and otherwise smashing things to rescue Lady Kong. The game never made it to the States but can be played via emulator; it’s not bad for what it is, and frankly it makes more sense than the movie.
