  1. It was really nice listening to two fans with such a palpable affection for Aquaman. I’d love to hear an episode where you guys offer your thoughts on other Aqua-depictions: Mercy Reef, Smallville, Timm Universe, etc.

I’m not a twitter-person but I do check out the Aquaman Shrine twitter feed on a weekly basis. Very fun and informative!

PS: Did you guys know that Jason Momoa went to high school with Brandon Routh (Norwalk, IA)? That will be some class reunion.

  2. Another cool little mini-sode!! I went to youtube to re-watch the footage while I listened. So to start off I took the cameras to be remote controlled, like the remotes in the movie The Abyss. I thought the glow from the eyes was light reflecting like Shag, like an animal which would of course be how he is able to see underwater. I replayed the section of footage after he disables the close-up camera over and over and here is my take. He jams the trident into the camera and it simply stops functioning and sinks. So the first “ripple” isn’t an explosion from the camera, I see it as the “wake” created when he first starts to swim, meaning he is already taking off at speed. Then there is the second larger “wake” as he really opens the throttle and books it out of there!!

I agree that this was the best of the cameos. I thought the Cyborg scene came a close second. I thought it was a very good re-creation of his origin in the animated Justice League movie. The Flash wasn’t that great but I’m not sure if its my feelings of not liking the look of this Flash getting in the way.

Awesome little ep guys. Keep up teh great work.

  3. Fun show. Some good points made. Aquaman is going to be a unique picture, if they do it right, and keep it mostly underwater, which I believe they will. LIke Joe pointed out, there are so many things to consider; communication, hair, interacting with surface dwellers, the complexity of filming, etc.

Who knows, they may go the old fashioned route like Ricou Browning did in all the Creature from the Black Lagoon flicks: have Momoa suck on an air hose every few minutes!

  4. After listening to this episode, it occurs to me that I’ll probably have to do a special episode of Power of Fishnets just talking about Harley Quinn in the SUICIDE SQUAD movie.

  5. Wow. I get the excitement over what’s to come but I wasn’t expecting you guys to wax Zack Snyder’s car so much over that 30 seconds. I’m sorry, but for me it was the most inert and least interesting of the three Lex Corp Meta-Human press kits. Cyborg was the most interesting (though I get that the horrificness of it may have caught some off guard.) Flash looked stupid but at least he did something.

This was the reaction in the theater I was in when Aquaman showed up. A few slight cheers at his first appearance. Awkward silence as he floated there and did nothing. Uncomfortable laughter as he continued to float there and do nothing. A couple of audible “what the hell was that?” utterances at the “sonic boom” moment. And that about says it for me too.

    1. I guess it’s all about expectations. Going in I knew his cameo would be VERY brief and he had no dialogue, so I wasn’t expecting anything more than what we saw. And, from that limited context, i genuinely liked what I saw.

Great Netpune, I’m defending Zack Snyder! WHAT HAVE I BECOME?!?

  6. The Aquaman film should be interesting – I think a lot of the film will be shot in the surface as I can’t see how they are going to do the dialogue, unless it is all done telepathically.

Listening to your commentary, was struck how cool it would have been if the markings on the camera said “Property of the Sea Devils”. Unfortunately, looking on Youtube the reference is to the US UUV Alpha – missed out on a cool Easter Egg there!

  7. I think you guys are overthinking the technical aspects of the Aquaman movie. They made Waterworld twenty years ago and that turned out well enough to profit through international box office on practical effects. They can convincingly portray flight in live action, and the only difference for underwater super-heroics is a lens filter and some cgi elements (hair, fish, whatevs.) Plus, I guarantee 90% of the action will be on ships and surface areas, and they may not even use Atlantis at all.
