  1. My favorite Mera story is the one leading up to the Mera Miniseries in Dan Abnett’s current Aquaman run. Mera in exile in Amnesty Bay after Arthur was overthrown and presumed dead, until she got Garth to help her break back into Atlantis and almost dying herself.

  2. I enjoyed this detour into the Mera miniseries. As someone who read the Abnett run up till very recently, it certainly felt like one of the longest runs by an author.

Happy Birthday for the week Rob!

  3. Great episode, gentlemen. I have to admit that I’ve been enjoying the Mera mini-series more than recent issues of the Aquaman ongoing. Since around Aquaman #30, I’ve felt that the Atlantean civil war story had really begun to drag (even by modern story telling standards), and I couldn’t figure out why Abnett would let that happen. Then I started reading the Mera mini-series, and eventually realized that these two stories were intended to meet up in Aquaman #38.

Now that I understand what was going on, I’m still not sure how I feel about it. While I would hate to deny Mera a full six issues in which to shine, I have to think that the main story line over in Aquaman would have benefited from being several issues shorter. Regardless, I have to give Abnett credit for trying something different.

  4. I haven’t read the mini yet, but I’m all for more Mera. Cindy got in the Mera doll from the Justice League movie a few weeks back, and although Mera got made into a Super Queen by Ideal in the 60s, it’s still awesome to see her singled out for the Barbie treatment. Great looking doll too!

I think that Super Friends comic was my introduction to both Mera AND Aqualad. One of my favorite childhood comics!

  5. “The ballsy move” line does sound more like surface dweller slang but the phrase “Neotune’s Balls” is said quite often in the Aquaman series.

  6. I liked this series a lot, but agree that four issues is enough. I really enjoy Abnett’s work on the main book, all the world building with city ‘trides’ and introduction of such great ideas as the Widowhood and guardian ghosts. Love Ondine and Vulko, too!

I’ve enjoyed Kelly Sue’s work at Marvel but the new direction sounds pants.
