  1. Batman (Kevin Conroy) recently turned up on the new series “Scooby Doo & Guess Who?” Other guests have included Weird Al Yankovic, Wanda Sykes, Ricky Gervais, Sia, Chris Paul, Penn & Teller, and Steve Urkel,

        1. It’s streamed on boomerang but I assume it will soon pop up on HBO Max, which just added the new Scoob movie.

      1. Thanks for posting this Chuck, as I have been very curious about this show. I wish this show was more widely available on a streaming service I actually get, like DC Universe for example.

        Chris

  2. You guys summed this series up perfectly. They are pure joy. I stumbled upon issue 13 on the shelves and couldn’t resist. I’d pick up issues as I’d find them (which wasn’t very often unfortunately) but every issue I’ve read was worth every penny. They are extremely fun comics. Sholly Fisch dug deep into ever corner of the DCU for characters and story ideas. He was also extremely creative when it came to blending the universes. For instance in the story featuring the Marvel Family, Shaggy and Velma both gain super powers from their shouting of ZOINKS and JINKIES
    Zeus – power
    Odin – knowledge
    Icarus – flight
    Neptune – depth
    Kronos – strength
    Sisyphus – persistence
    &
    Juno – dominion
    Isis – magic
    Nemesis – justice
    Kali – strength
    Ishtar – love
    Electra – courage
    Sibyl – foresight

  3. There are several Scooby Doo podcasts out there. “A Podcast Named Scooby Doo” covers the history of the franchise & “Scooby Doos & Scooby Don’ts” is looking at EVERY Scooby episode in chronological order. They are currently covering “Mystery Incorporated,” which is the absolute best version of the series. It tells a 2 season mystery that delves into the gang and their history.

    1. That’s so funny because Rob and I were talking about “Breakin’: Shabba Doo’s and Don’ts” podcast!

  4. When I first heard about the Scooby-Doo Team-Up sale on ComiXology, I went right there and clicked Add All to my shopping cart. Then when I went to buy them, it kept saying that it added 99 books to My Comics. I couldn’t figure out what went wrong; why didn’t it give me all 100?!!

When I went through my comics, all 100 were there, so why did it only say I “purchased” 99 for free?

Well, I finally remembered that I already had one of the issues with a Zatanna appearance that I got a long time ago. Yeah, I solved that mystery with no help from Daphne and her forgettable friends.

  5. I picked up the first few collected volumes of Scooby-Doo Team-Up for my daughter, because they seemed like such a fun way to introduce her to the many faces of the DC Universe, and they have not disappointed in that regard. Now, you tell me that I can complete my… I mean my daughter’s collection for free! I hereby nominate you both to be named the patron saints of Scooby-Doo comic book sales, if the position isn’t already filled.

Thank you for covering these issues.

  6. What a blast to listen to you talk about these stories! The more I read/hear about Sholly Fisch stories, the more I admire him! He seems to have the best grasp of DC characters of any writer since E. Nelson Bridwell. Certainly, placing our heroes within the Scooby Doo milieu leans toward the sillier elements, but he doesn’t seem to need to alter the basic traits of the DC Superstars. Whereas, almost every major “story arc” over the last 30 years does exactly that!
I’ve only got the issues with The Legion of Superheroes and The Justice Society, as that’s what I collect, but I have peeked through a collection at the library. I loved the bit where Mystery Inc. teams up with the cartoon Teen Titans, several issues after meeting the “Filmation” Batman and Robin, and someone comments that “Robin sure seems different when he’s not with Batman!”
BTW, the ghost of The Haunted Tank is General Jeb Stuart, late of the army of the confederacy. The commander of the tank is also named Jeb Stuart.

  7. Thanks for a terrific show, a lovely surprise. I didn’t know about the Many Loves of Dobie Gillis connection… hey, DC did a comic version, that puts the show in the Multiverse, I see a missed opportunity for a Scooby Doo Team-Up!

All of the issues discussed here were wonderful because, well, every issue was. The plot of the GL/GA story, though, was especially genius.

I love that Sholly Fisch had continuity in the stories – not just the Mystery Inc gang recalling previous encounters with the likes of Flash, but Daphne carrying on with the martial artistry she learned from Hong Kong Phooey’s Hong Kong Book of Kung-Fu for the rest of the series.

Shagg, Sholly also dipped into the regular DCU with back-ups during Grant Morrison’s Superman run, having been hand-picked by the writer. They’re worth checking out!

    1. Oh, now I’m revisiting those Sholly Action tales… Shagg, if you try just one, I suggest Last Day in #6, drawn by ChrisCross, a lovely look at Clark saying goodbye to the Kent farm. Or Baby Steps in the previous issue, art by ChrisCross again, which concerns Jonathan and Martha’s life before Clark. Or…

  8. Let me join in the praise of this book. So perfect.

As you mention, Fisch seems to command a Bridwellian knowledge of the DCU as he jams every issue with deep cuts of continuity. His Supergirl issue (#37 in print) is stuffed with a lot of Kara history, much of which only a Supergirl fan would acknowledge as true history. (My review: http://comicboxcommentary.blogspot.com/2018/04/review-scooby-doo-team-up-37.html)
Just a brilliant primer for the DCU for people wanting to learn more.

And I’ll echo Martin. Fisch’s backup stories in Morrison’s Action Comics showed me he could do mainstream if he wanted to. Those stories were perfect for the Morrison book, providing some back story and history for the then ‘new’ Superman.

  9. Great show guys! I love this series, and when it first came out, I read it to my Scooby-obsessed daughter. Heck, she’s got a Scooby-decorated room with silhouettes of the gang in their classic running poses painted by me on the wall, and the colors are all Mystery Machine-approved!

But back to the comic, Dani has the entire run, and I always enjoyed reading these…even after she started reading them herself. Especially when DC was mired in the blech of the New 52, this was the only safe haven for fans of the good ol’ DCU.

I would love to hear you guys cover more of these, and I hereby volunteer to join you!

    Chris

  10. What a great idea for an FW Presents! It was great to hear the joy in your voices showcasing these issues. I’ve enjoyed reading some of those issues (in the floppy form) with my kids. But now I know they’re all for free digitally? Looks like me and my kids will have plenty of reading material for a long while. And I get to explain to my kids who Ultra, the Multi-Alien is!

I will echo the above commentators with the Marvel Family and the Legion of Superheroes issues. They’re really fun, but from what I learned this podcast, they ALL sound fun. I hope Solly Fisch has won some awards for this series as it is so hard to do all ages comics these days.

This was great I would love to hear you guys talk about other issues in the future! Keep up the great work!

P.S. – “Ruh roh, reroin!” made me laugh so hard!
