Give Me Those Star Wars 24: Eight Expectations

WARNING!!! POTENTIAL SPOILERS FOR STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI

With the next Star Wars movie only two weeks away, Ryan Daly indulges in some idle and not-so-idle speculation. Presented here are Eight Expectations--that is, eight predictions about the plot and characters of Star Wars Episode VIII. But Ryan's not alone, he's brought in eight friends of the podcast (Rob Kelly, Andy Kapellusch, Aaron Bias, Mark Marble, Angela Drew, Paul Hix, Mike Garvey, and Mike Gillis) to share their own predictions about the movie. Consider yourself warned: You may want to save this episode and come back and listen to it after you see STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI. Then you'll know which of these predictions was right on, and which were pure fantasy.

  1. I remain not only uninterested but actively opposed to any sort of redemption arc for Kylo Ren whatsoever. In fact, what I want/predict for 8 (and possibly 9) is a story that rejects that possibility entirely and does so directly commenting on how morally insane the idea of Vader’s ‘redemption’ is. I want to see his force ghost twisted and shunned by the other force ghosts.

Of the predictions given in the show, I want to see Lando the most. Followed by the great porg hoax.

    1. That Lando prediction was the one that irritated me the most, since there’s been a news report from the director himself saying that Lando wasn’t in The Last Jedi. I can only assume that more people missed that (it WAS rather click-baity) than I’d thought.

  2. Fun ep Ryan and rest assured as someone who was in two minds about listening to this ep, fan based predictions and expectations happily did not equal spoilers. Well done.

There have been so many theories thrown about for this movie, Luke and Ray, Fin and Phasma, Kylo and Snoke and of course Leia. I have already said in comments for previous episodes that I just can’t decide which to put my money on so I’m just going to sit here and enjoy the ride while we wait and see.

So what do I want from this movie? Answers damn it!! Like Ang I want to know what the hell happened to Luke. I want to know what went wrong with Kylo’s training. And most of all I want a fitting end for Leia and Carrie Fisher. I know it’s damn near impossible given the circumstances but I just want it done right. I know “right” will have a different meaning for everyone but I’m going to be selfish and say I want it “right” for me. I feel we will see her die. Han and then Leia one movie after another, it’s going to hurt. I don’t know if Kylo will kill her. This will be the decider of his “redemption” arc. If he kills both Han and Leia there will be no redeeming him. From every novel, film, comic and video game they have made concerning the Light and Dark side of the force he would be too far down the Dark Side to come back. Well Annakin did kill a bunch of kids and he made it back so maybe…

I also hope they fix the Leia/Chewie thing. You know what I’m talking about. At the end, Han is dead and Leia and Ray have this really good scene of mutual grief and poor Chewie gets nothing, nadda, zip!! He just walks passed Leia in the background and gets on doing whatever it is he is doing. I didn’t notice it until it was pointed out but now everytime I rewatch Force Awakens it sticks out like a giant set of dogs balls. This is such a massive oversight it’s almost unbearable and needs to be addressed and fixed as soon as possible.

Of all the predictions mentioned I’m most excited by Lando. I don’t think it will happen but geez wouldn’t be great if it did. After Han’s death you could totally see Leia reaching out to Lando. And the other is a Force Ghost. That would be amazing!! I can’t even calm down enough to consider which character would be best. I always thought see a Qui-Gon force ghost at the end of Revenge of the Sith would have been great. Obiwan feels like the best choice but that’s just because he is the most familiar in that role. Given Kylo’s turmoil I don’t think it could be Annakin, would be a bit of a sell out to him turn up and tell Kylo “You idiot” or to Family Guy if he says “Thank you. He was never good enough for my daughter. I never liked him.”

Anyway until the post movie review, and there will be a post movie review ep wont there Ryan. Not like this Justice League sized whole the FW Network has left me with, may the Force be with you.

    1. Yes. I have no idea when the next episode will come out, but whenever it does, it will include an assessment of all the predictions made on this show.

  3. I’m a big spoiler-avoider, so i just listened to this ep. Kudos to everybody for such interesting predictions. Much braver than I. Looking forward to the inevitable TLJ review.
