  1. Great episode fellas!

Can someone explain to me why there is such a thing as “pre-ordering” movies on platforms like iTunes? it’s not like it won’t be available, so why pre-order?

I missed my chance to see TFA a fifth time in the theater, so I will be buying it the day it comes out. I have not said this about a Star Wars movie since the OT was put on DVD. That was long, long ago…

Re: the feedback–Shag is very susceptible to every cockamamie fan theory that crosses his path. Remember when he thought Luke was Kylo Ren? #NeverForget

    1. I know some platforms will offer discounts on pre-ordering at different times so you’re always guaranteed to get the best deal. Now, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of iTunes offering that kind of deal so your question is valid. There is no practical reason to pre-order the movie on iTunes except for the fact that I want to turn on my computer that morning and see it waiting for me like a nice little April Christmas present.

  2. Yeah, if the First Order was going to flip that switch on brainwashed Poe, you’d think it would be BEFORE he had a chance to blow up Death Star 3.0. Sorry Shag.

Some great discussion on the Rey Force vision sequence. One of the most intriguing aspects of the film, for sure. Personally, I’m still sticking with my theory that Luke put the Force whammy on R2, and that Rey’s presence after completely linking to the Force is what reactivated him. And yes, Luke set it up that way.

I had never heard the “Rey is Obi-Wan’s granddaughter” theory until our Force Awakens roundtable, Ryan, but I liked it. And someone in our house added that maybe she’s Luke’s kid too, so I agree with Mark that that would be a mind-blowing revelation. Either way, I do think Rey was a trainee of Luke’s, whether she’s a Skywalker, Solo, or Kenobi.

Put me down as wanting to see Ewan McGregor back as Ob-Wan in some fashion. Easily the best aspect of the prequels, bar none.

  3. You got much more mileage out of this topic than I would have thought. I don’t think there’s much to be read into the reordering of the vision portion from the novel (which can be assumed to be how it was in the script) to the film. I think you can chalk it up to the basic “this just flows better” discoveries that happening in editing.

As for Rey appearing to experience such a wide range of things that she was both present for and were experienced by others: I took it as Rey taking hold of the lightsaber as basically just jolting awake her force sensitivity and then she was flooded with things she both remembered herself and was experiencing for the first time. I find the idea of Rey being both Luke’s daughter and Obi Wan’s granddaughter to be an interesting one, though like you I would still much prefer she not be related to anybody of note but doubt that will be the case.

  4. Another great episode, even with Ryan on this one. Since I love ridiculous fan theories…. your discussion got my brain going in a bunch of different directions. After seeing the film, I dismissed the idea that Ben Solo and Rey were siblings. But now you’ve got me questioning that. What if they were siblings. Ben the older brother, and Rey the younger sister. Then during the destruction of the Jedi Temple, Ben couldn’t bring himself to kill his sister (assuming she was there). Therefore he might be the one who stashed her on Jakku, simply to let her survive but out of his way (she would be Force-whammied to forget who she was; and Rey would be her new name). Then everyone thinks she died in the destruction of the Jedi temple. That’s why Han and Leia didn’t recognize her as their daughter (they think their daughter is dead). Just a crazy theory and probably as wrong as Po the Sleeper Agent. 😛

    1. Well Ryan and Mark.. based upon your discussion and the speculation that Kylo and Rey could be siblings, I ordered these two shirts for my kids today from TeeFury. If you are wrong, you owe me $25. If you are right.. well, then I guess my step-son and daughter are destined to battle across the stars. I’m good with either option.

  5. Also, thank you for the Star Wars news segments! I avoid the Star Wars news sites to purposely avoid spoilers. I had not heard about the Blu-Rey (see what I did there) release date being so soon. Just ordered mine! Thanks!
