  1. “Soft as a baby’s bottom.”

Doesn’t Hawkeye have a similar poker hand later in the series. “I have this pair of 2s. And this other pair of 2s.”

I thought Radar was surprised to be asked how he gets women. So I think he said a bunch of stuff he would think would work.

  2. Thank you for another great episode, gentlemen. In particular, your discussion of the kitchen’s location sent me down the rabbit hole of looking up maps of the 4077th camp on the internet. Good times.

Regarding The Longjohn Flap episode itself, I consider this a fun, but not particularly memorable one. I was surprised to hear that it was Alda’s first writing credit on the series. I also have to agree that those longjohns always looked pretty thin, and not very warm, to me, but I guess beggars can’t be choosers.

  3. I hate the assembly of this episode Much like the Hawkeye needs a boot episode or the staff answers letters from a third grade episode, I find the assembly of each major star getting his or her own six minutes on the screen never to be seen again to feel like it was a contractual requirement either by the actor or the agent. It makes for a very disjointed show. You say “durable comic premise”, I say clumsy collection of jumbled scenes gathered to appease actors or agents.

I never saw the Radar scene as Radar coming off as a ladies’ man. In my opinion he is impressed that the cook THINKS he’s a ladies’ man so he spews out some things he may have picked up in magazines or books. This is why the lamb wins out over the girl. His first love is not women but food.

Wasn’t it amazing that the long johns fit perfectly on everyone who wore them (Hawkeye, Trapper, Henry, Frank and the good Father off camera)?

In pioneer days it was not uncommon for a kitchen to be detached from the house. Kitchens had a knack of catching fire in those days so it was better to lose the kitchen than the whole house. I guess the camp thought that it was better to lose the kitchen than to endanger the lives of scores of chow hounds.

  4. Another episode I remember from back in the day, but haven’t seen in a long while. Fortunately, I jumped onto Hulu’s Black Friday special deal, so I’m catching up!

    Nice job, Rob and Shawn!
