  1. Great to see the show back!

One comment on your talk around Henry’s ‘pepperoni pizza’ line.

It is clear, given how busy the OR is, that they aren’t just starting. I always assumed that Henry had been in the OR and had left for a minute – bathroom break, grab a bite, or even to just re-scrub – and therefore was returning to work, not just arriving. The ‘pizza’ line was his way of letting people know he was back and ready to get busy. Also, trust me, a little humor can go a very long way in the business.

    Great episode.

  2. Great episode, glad to have you back! I’ve always enjoyed this episode as a “second” pilot that reintroduced the new, larger audience the show would be gaining to the characters. The writing by Gelbart is incredible, with one liners and tossed off insults galore. I always crack up at the “Frank would park the cars” line. This episode feels like the true first time that “classic” MASH gelled, Season 2 is up there with season 4 as my favorite, so I can’t wait to listen!

  3. This was soooo much fun to record. Though my apologies for being a lil’ too giddy at times. It was simply that much fun to talk about.

  4. It’s a good thing they made a SSN 2 of MASH, so we can have a SSN2 of MASH Cast!

Great episode of the show and the podcast. Don’t have anything not already said, just glad you’re back.

Side note: I listened to Alan Alda’s podcast for the MASH reunion. Oh my god, that made me so happy and nostalgic the whole time. And I must say, hearing Loretta Swit’s voice brought back my childhood crush in spades. It’s simply awesome that Rob is Tweeting with her. Good for you!

  5. Hi Rob, I just found your MASHcast podcast after your guest spot on the MASH Matters podcast. Your podcast is a great companion for MASH fans, young, and old. I’m an older time fan: grew up watching the show on our family’s black and white television. And as a M*A*S*H fan who now has all 11 seasons on DVD, I too noticed the 1970’s era van you mentioned that randomly appears in the background (at the outdoor MASH set at the Fox / Century Ranch) in a scene during the episode “Divided We Stand”. In listening to Jeff Maxwell (Private Igor!, and co-host of MASH Matters) talk about days when the cast filmed out at the ranch, he said cast members would be driven out to the ranch set in vans. My guess is that the anachronistic 1970 van that mistakenly made it into that shot was bringing cast members or extras who had a later “call” (e.g. start time), to the set. The shot the van appears in looks toward Crags Road, which is the main dirt road (now a narrow, mountain bike trail/hiking path in what’s now Malibu Creek State Park) that ran from the entrance of Century Ranch, back to the set. Just my guess/two cents on why a 1970’s van made it into the show!
