  1. Hope Summers is also well remembered by fans of The Andy Griffith Show as Clara Edwards, Aunt Bee’s best friend/occasional rival. She appeared in 32 episodes of the series (initially not always as Clara, but still in basically the same role) and 5 episodes of the spin-off/continuation, Mayberry R.F.D. She also appeared in several of Don Knotts’ films like The Ghost and Mr. Chicken and The Shakiest Gun in the West.

I really need to start that Mayberry P.O.D. Cast….

    1. Living near a TV station that broadcasts Andy Griffith every weeknight at 5:30pm, Mayberry P.O.D. could get a lot of listeners round hereabouts.

  2. I understand I’m in a very small minority here, but this episode is in my bottom five of the series. It is so clumsily written.

You and your guest mentioned several instances of this and really there are too many to list but here are some others — Radar and Henry bumping heads not once but three times in the span of about three minutes, the speech Blake does after everyone arrives is so awkward and feels so completely out of place, the Klinger escape scene with its overwrought laugh track on the original broadcast and three characters reciting verbatim the same description of Klinger, the line “Make sure they’re lean” is so unfunny and so out of character for Hawkeye (his comebacks are usually much wittier than this), the PA announcer’s over the top joy that Blake is returning — I could go on and on.

Poorly constructed, badly directed, an overuse of a totally annoying laugh track, etc., make this my least favorite Henry/Trapper episode and places it near the bottom of the entire season run which is tough to do as I have a lot of problems with seasons 9 through 11.
