  1. Hawkeye’s gradually declining health and increasing exhaustion is impressive to see. Sometimes, Hawkeye can come off kinda arrogant, but here he’s not pushing because he thinks he’s the best, but because patients will die if he doesn’t. Great performance by Alda.

I agree, this episode is a real gem for Swit. She gets some good lines, and teams up well with Alda as always, cemented by getting to stick it to him in the funniest moment!

As for non-medical personnel helping with surgery, I’d rationalize it as an extended case of First Aid or CPR, and at least it’s at the direction of a doctor. But man, it’s good not to think about it too much. The whole situation gives me the willies, for both sides of the scalpel!

    Great job as always, Rob!

  2. I always re-watch episodes like this one with the thought in my head, “What if this had been Trapper or Henry (or Frank?) instead of Hawkeye?” We would have learned a lot about their characters, and it would have been entertaining in a very different way. Oh, well.

  3. My favorite episode from season 2. Lots of Hawkeye, Margaret is not very shrill and Blake even has a good scene (melting under his bed). My favorite line is “I’d like to get well and do them all over again.”
