  1. Tim Price! The most frequent (and perhaps most welcome) guest of the Fire & Water Podcast Network — a true gentleman, and our very own Sidney Freedman, if you will. Always happy to hear your input, sir!

A few quick thoughts on a superb episode and similarly high quality review, gents: Whether he wears catwalk taffeta or khaki twill, Klinger is consistently one of the best soldiers on MASH. It makes me proud when I reflect that, like Alan Alda, Jamie Farr actually served in Korea (although both served after 1953; I think I may have written differently in the past).

The mutual respect between Margaret and Hawkeye was refreshing and heartwarming. It was also a welcome change from the previous episode, House Arrest. Of course, I looked up the production order, and Aid Station was filmed seven episodes after House Arrest. In that order, the distinction might not have been as sharp.

I agree with your point that the actors did a great job of portraying the medical personnel’s instinctive concern for the men, their revulsion at the carnage — all of it. It was a believable tribute to those who work to save lives while those around them are forced to try and end them.

Thanks again. Looking forward to Wednesday!

    1. Aw, thank you, Captain! Very kind of you, good sir. Glad you enjoyed the episode, and I likewise look forward to Wednesday! Now if only I can find my mink in time…

  2. This is another one of my favorites, and I think I like it partly because of the dichotomy of the featured players being the three actors who stayed the entire 11 years. I wonder, was this a case of the chicken or the egg? If Wayne Rogers had been featured in this episode or more like these instead of Alan Alda, would he have stayed?
As others said, Klinger was great here. Clearly, the producers had decided that Jaime Farr was worth getting a full-on contract instead of being a day player.
And at the end, I think they used Father Mulcahy instead of Klinger because this was another (follow-up) Officers’ meeting. Klinger was not an officer; Father Mulcahy was a Lieutenant, wasn’t he?

    1. You are correct, Father Mulcahy was a Lieutenant, so he is an officer and that’s why he was in Henry’s meeting to pick people for the mission. I like your idea of this as an officer’s meet-up perhaps rather than an actual meeting since it’s in the mess tent. But it is nice as symmetry to Henry’s meeting, getting the same characters together before and after the mission. Very nice. Thanks, Lt RB!
