  1. Rob, great episode again, even without the focus on an a single episode or the participation of an amazing guest. Of course, the mailbag episodes are a little like a “greatest hits” clip show, since you bring them all to mind.

Thank you for reading two of my most long-winded comments in their entirety. I was flattered and humbled that you did so. My wife overheard you talking about Dreamland and asked, “Did you write that?” As it went on, she exclaimed, “Wow! Was that a comment or a thesis?”

There were so many terrific comments that I was in honored to be in such great company. I’ve said so before, but I especially enjoy the medical knowledge Anj and Chris Lewis bring to the table. I also very much appreciate your highlighting Gene Hendricks’ comment and the link about his uncle. I don’t know how I missed that before, but I will check it out tonight.

Take care, brother. May the hiatus be short, but well-enjoyed. Back to the salt mines!

    1. Thanks, Captain. I came here to say how much I appreciate your insightful comments about your time in service, so I can return the complement!
For a 40+ year old sitcoms, MASH certainly has some unexpected hidden depths we can continue to explore!
Over here in the UK, MASH didn’t get the near-continuous re-runs that seem to have been the norm over in the USA, but I do remember watching the show on the BBC in my teens. MASHcast has encouraged me to pick up the show on DVD and rewatch for the first time in many years – that’s down to the passion & enthusiasm of Rob & his guests.

      1. Thank you, Chris! By the way, I agree with you so much that this podcast spurred me to do the same things (purchase the DVDs and rewatch the series, I mean) — and I have access to the constant reruns!

  2. Hey there,

Just to comment on one of the reviewers: I’m a conservative (ish*) person who loves MASH and loves the podcast. Keep up the good work!

    * = But not so conservative as to make Theodore Williamson look like a New Dealer.

  3. Enjoyed the season wrap up. Hard to pick a best episode. Abbysinia was certainly an iconic episode but there wasn’t much to it outside of the final OR scene. A lot of serious and silly episodes to enjoy.

I got a chuckle from the bad review you read. You are against the first two amendments? You have said you don’t like guns but you have never said they should be banned. As for the first, you called out Frank for burning books and have on a number of occasions said how you like Father Mulcahy and how the show treats religion with respect. You even said you like that Klinger goes to church.

Looking forward to S4. Hope it isn’t a long break. I need my MASH fix and MASH Matters is only every two weeks.

    Enjoy some R&R in Tokyo.

    1. Thanks, but if it’s all the same to you, I’ll use standard S-1798s and write in “pizza” where it says “machine gun.”

  4. Hey Rob,
I know you are on hiatus but I still wanted to pop in and let you know how much I enjoy each of your thoughtful, well researched and heartfelt episodes. During the pandemic I’ve found myself listening and re-listening to episodes and much like MASH itself, there is something familiar, interesting and even comforting about each episode. This was especially true when things were feeling their most upside-down in 2020. So thank you for all of the hard work you have put into this show, it is always a joy to listen to and has been a real help.
