This is one of my Top Ten favorite MASH episodes. I just love it, from Radar’s narration, to Potter’s reaction to same, to Klinger’s attempt to get out of the Army, to, of course, the fight between Hawkeye and BJ. To me, this episode humanizes BJ and Frank….you don’t like Frank, but you can understand him. His line, “A perfectly fine birthday, shot to hell” is one I’ve used (sarcastically) several times in my life. 🙂 I like how Hawkeye is a real jerk in this episode, and BJ is the better man. In fact, there’s nothing in this episode I don’t like! It’s comedy gold!!
I’m surprised neither of you mentioned that Radar mentions the date at the beginning of this episode, June 12. That means that’s Frank’s birthday!
My favorite line is when Radar is telling Potter about Hemingway, O’Neill, and…somebody, and then Potter reads the fine-print and clues us in that it isn’t Ernest Hemingway or Eugene O’Neill. That makes me laugh every time….well, like most of the episode does. 🙂

With all Potter puts up with at the 4077th, he puts his foot down on Radar writing colorful daily reports? As long as HQ doesn’t complain, what’s the harm?
Klinger going off looking to capture POWs was funny. Yes, the implied rape wouldn’t fly today, but Klinger as a whole wouldn’t be on the show today.
The gasoline bit was funny as well.

Interesting BJ said Hawkeye gets the last line, it was BJ that had the last line of the series when he spelled out “Goodbye” with the rocks.
