  1. Thank goodness Siskoid and the Girls came through with an episode today, as I’m back to work one day after Christmas!

I wonder if the generous benefits program the Serpent Society provided wasn’t somewhat inspired by what Larry Hama was doing with the similarly themed Cobra organization over in the G.I. Joe seres Marvel was publishing? Sounds like a croosover that could have been a lot of fun!

I wasn’t sure how the Girls would react to Art Adams somewhat…extreme anatomy with Sersi. The roots of the Image style are definitely there in Adams’ early work.

I associate this Shadowcat look with Alan Davis, who definitely makes the top look more like a jacket. Kitty definitely went through codenames and costumes like toilet paper, but this one was clearly a winner with some staying power.

No shock that Shang-Chi earned a hot. Kind of surprised the Girls didn’t comment on his “pajama” outfit (as folks often call it), though!

  2. With regard to Shadowcat, I think she was the victim of ‘rapid comicbook ageing syndrome’ having been aged up from 13 to 18 in a relatively short timeframe (in comicbook terms) presumably to make her romance plots less squicky…

Something similar went on with the FF’s kids, I think.

  3. I mistook the “I think he stands like a Canadian” comment for “I think he stands like a comedian” and it took me awhile to get the correct context.
    Still, great episode as always.

  4. “I am not a foot person, but then I saw agile feet” would make a great T-Shirt.

Dad told me once that Shang-Chi should have worn shoes for the type of martial arts he had done in the comics. And no, they would not have been Air Jordans like in the movie. Probably not the aikido shoes Dad used to wear either…

  5. Another real fun episode. The group seemed very much in unity about these characters and I like it when everyone gets along.

Sentry: Uranus almost made it to the end of this entry without a comment, and I have to say, that’s a sign of real growth. It’s been a long 27 years since this group was asking for more Abomination bulge.

Serpent Society: The White Whale of oHOTmu! Although the excited gasps at the mention of an abandoned insane asylum, while on brand, was unsettling. Lastly, it makes sense that the Serpent Society are Socialists….because of the alliteration.

Sersi: How you hypnotize someone with a pipe is: first, you hit them on the head with the pipe and knock them unconscious. Then, you say “ta-da! They’re hypnotized!”

Everyone tried to talk about Sersi’s outfit and the over sexualized art and then the battle to topple the comic book patriarchy got derailed by a pig.

Shadowcat: I think Shadowcat did take dance. Wasn’t her dance instructor a supporting character for a while? And didn’t Kitty drop an N-bomb? In that comic where Mike Pence tried to kill all mutants or something? My memory is fuzzy about it.

Shang Chi: everyone’s love for Shang Chi was so wholesome I almost came down with diabetes from how sweet this was. Like I said with Uranus….a lot of growth!

    1. As for Kitty’s n-word, a crowd of bullies goes after her for going to Xavier’s school and they threateningly call her a mutie. The spokesman is black, so she turns it back at him: “I dunno, are you a”. So it happened. I don’t blame Kitty, I blame Chris Claremont.

      1. Ahh, I found what I was talking about. It was in an X-Men graphic novel. Someone called Kitty a “mutie-lover” and her black dance instructor told her not to get upset, they were just words, and Kitty replied “would you say that if he called me “n-word lover”.

Not as bad as I had originally thought. But Still CC, I was 9! Don’t be dropping racial slurs around 9 year olds!

  6. Going from “Uranus” to “Show us your ta-tas” to Sersei “pictured showing off cleavage” certainly fits the mandate of this show. 😀

The Serpent Society advertising reminds me of Ghostbusters: “No job is too big! No fee is too big!”

Exchange of the episode: “Slut Day?!?!” “You know, Halloween.”

  7. Hooray for more oHOTmu! I’m glad I’m only a month behind in my listening now! I’m getting close to actually getting these comments in on time for the feMail bag. This was another fantastic episode that was thoroughly enjoyable! Well done!

Serpent Society – I love the genuine joy of the ladies encountering this entry.

Sersi – I am a fan of Art Adams (have the ladies seen the X-Babies?) but this is entry definitely has a cocked hip. Have I not been observing Slut Day (either Halloween or the one day in July) properly? I did go as a “sexy nurse” one year for Halloween but it was just me with regular scrubs and a lot of gel in my hair. People did not get it.

Shadowcat – She’s DEFINITELY a crush. This entry also has a cocked hip but it looks a lot more natural than Sersi.

Shang-Chi – This was a very enjoyable entry for all the reactions. How DO Canadians stand? Now I’m self-conscious.

Ha! I do have agile feet! Maybe it’s why I stand like a Canadian?

This was another super fun episode everyone! Thanks for all the laughs. Keep up the great work!
