Possible insight into “Tryin’ to Get to Heaven,” or at least the source of that title.
One of the churches that Dylan was part of in California in the late ’70s & early ’80s is connected to the church that I have been involved with for 25+ years. The founder of the church regularly referred to himself as “just a fat man trying to get to Heaven.” That man passed away in late 1997, after battling cancer for a number of years.
Perhaps Dylan knew about the man’s sickness when he was putting these songs together and remembered that expression, or maybe he heard it enough during his involvement in the church that it just naturally came out of him. But I’d certainly guess that was the source of the title.
Ryan’s dad has amazing taste in music, that’s for damn sure
Great show guys. Congrats on 50 episodes of PD Rob. I have listened to them all, and you’ve certainly broadened my appreciation for the man and his music. I usually don’t have much to add, but I enjoy them all.
