well done, interesting discussion! maybe i’ll you at the conference?
Nice one! I often go back to this album and don’t know why it doesn’t seem to be a talking point for Dylan fans.
Really engaging discussion-thank you
Hi Rob,
As is so often the case, I listened to this episode while driving and then kept forgetting to send in my feedback, but finally, here it is.
I really enjoyed hearing the genuine enthusiasm and insightful comments that you and Ron Randall shared during the episode and it was great the way you connected the music to your shared passion for comics and storytelling and it was fun hearing the conversation about the Kubert School.
I also liked the way you both connected Bob Dylan with noir storytelling through the imagery in his songs. I had never considered that, but definitely agreed when I heard that discussion.
I also liked the discussion about how Bob Dylan is able to tap into the vast history and variety of music in his songs. Really impressive.
I smiled as Ron was able to work in references to both Richard Thompson and Bruce Springsteen during the episode. He’s big fans of both of them as well as Bob Dylan.
The connection to Ralph Stanley was also interesting. He is from the area where Ruth and I grew up. In fact, his aunt was a resident at the nursing home in Clintwood, VA where we’re from. Ralph Stanley used to do a benefit concert for the nursing home every year to thank them for the care they gave his aunt. In addition, the Ralph Stanley Museum is located in Clintwood right on Main Street where we drive by it whenever we visit.
I really liked the discussion about how important it is to plant clues to have a surprise ending. I liked the way you both pointed out the clues Bob Dylan included in this song. As a Trekker fan, I know I appreciate the way Ron plants clues in his stories that pay off later.
Thanks for the great episode as always!
