Great episode Rob and David. Some good background to the movie from you both. Chris D.
Oooh, a long-awaited sequel! While Billy 4 is THE Billy song, the fact that there are several makes the soundtrack particularly good to listen to all in one go.
About blowing up chickens and scorpions, this was something fairly prevalent in “cutting edge” cinema of the 70s, after studio reigns were loosed. There’s a similar scene in Jodorowski’s El Topo (a surreal Mexican Buddhist western of this era), also at the top of the movie. On the commentary track, Jodorowski claims that, at the time, he believed making an animal sacrifice would empower his film in some way. As he evolved as a person and film maker, he came to regret the gesture.
