One response to “Tough Like a Girl #6 – Roller Girl

  1. I’ve been meaning to read this one for a while. Both of my daughters love it, and I trust their taste. Their copy has that curling corner page look of a book that’s been re-read a lot. Knowing about this episode got me to sit down and race through it. Oh my gosh, such a funny story! I enjoyed it immensely.

Trying to keep my comments brief, so they’re gonna be more disjointed than usual. My girls are living this drama right now, so I sympathized rather than dreaded the drama. Completely agree that roller derby kept this from being a book which could be told with a boy instead, I dug Astrid’s/Asteroid’s journey from childhood to teenager with the parallel of the sport and what it teaches her: face fear, be strong, be tough, and when needed, put on your war face.

Ok, you might not believe this, but I discussed derby names with my girls, and the one I thought for myself is LAME (Bruce Pain). But I suggested for my daughter Ginny the name … Hermione Danger! I swear to Thor, I had not listened to the episode first! Oh, that was awesome!

Sooooo… yeah… afraid I’m gonna comment on all of your episodes. Just so you know.
