  1. When did Superman make his dinner date with Lana? He was evil Superman when he last saw her onscreen and since then he’s been busy cleaning up the oil spill and fighting the bad guys. And even if some time has passed offscreen, how did he make the date with her? Did he call her on the phone and say, “hi Lana, this is Superman, will you go out on a date with me?” And why did he make the date as Superman and then show up as Clark and say Superman couldn’t make it? Why not just do it as Clark in the first place?

  2. The thing I wonder about with crushing coal into diamonds is that he seemed pretty confident that this trick would work, so he must have spent some time practising it. He probably has a shoebox full of diamonds of varying quality in the Fortress of Solitude. Otherwise, it’d be pretty embarrassing if this was his first attempt and he just handed Lana some coal dust.

  3. I’m pretty sure I know why Pryor turned down the coal mining job. One… It’s a job mining coal! I mean, is there a harder, more dangerous back breaking job? Two, his previous employment under millionaires like Ross Webster and Ulysses Bates were also terrible!!! I’m betting he decided to try out for a career in baseball hand hope to just inherit $300,000,000.

  4. I didn’t like the wrap up for Gus in this scene as it really didn’t lead to any character growth in the end. He made a good choice in the climax (saving Superman, trying to shut down his monster computer), but here – we get the impression he’s sworn off computers as too dangerous for his wacky life, and we leave Gus to wander off into… offscreen?
Clark giving Lana this massive rock of a ring felt so weird. I liked that he was moving on from Lois after being categorically turned down, but… won’t this lead to precisely the same problem once Lana discovers Clark and Superman are the same person? And sure, we see this as if Clark is just “replacing the ring she had to hock”, but I don’t buy that for a second. The only plus here is that this could have lead to a decent rivalry between Lois and Lana in sequels, which would have brought in a fun element from the comics.
Poor Brad gets full Biff Tannen’d here. I think he deserves it from trying to go after Clark, who is patiently letting him get humiliated enough that he should potentially leave Lana alone in the future (this was his intent, imho). I personally always cheered for Clark at the end of Superman II when he deals with the bully in the diner, as it showed us that bullies do get a comeuppance. This scene just felt like… more advertising for KFC!
