  1. Now this is a coincidence. I just had Louise Simonson sign my copy of Man of Steel #14 this past weekend. Yeah, Jimmy’s outfit is really bad, but like Chris said, I think that’s part of the point. Is it really more ridiculous than Turtle Boy? 😉

  2. Whew! Marathon episode guys, congrats on 75. Standard protocol is the network springs for a painted cover.

I have never seen TWINS OF EVIL, but with its rampant nudity and violence I need to change that. I’ve long wondered, what did old hands like Cushing and Lee think of the Hammer films as they got more, uh, adult? Did they just cash the check and not worry about it, or did they long for a more refined time?

Love the original graphic you did for the show, Chris, nicely done. Has a sort of Warren, FMOF vibe to it.

    1. I can’t take credit for that “cover”. It’s from one of the movie posters, with the image of Cushing from the House of Hammer magazine, which had a comic adaptation of this movie! I just fudged with the art to make it match the poster. I just spruced it up with some Warren/Famous Monsters-like blurbs and such.

I really don’t know how Lee & Cushing felt about the amped up nudity and gore as the films progressed. Lee pretty much loathed playing Dracula by this point and only did it because the studio shamed him into it, because if he didn’t play the part, the overseas distributors wouldn’t buy the film, and that would put people at the studio out of work. You can see in some of the publicity photos from the time, Lee just looks plain honked off to be there. But his performances are still as strong as ever.

With Cushing, I think he just wanted that steady work. He could get it in the horror genre since he’d made a name it it, so he just kept plugging away to deal with his grief over his wife’s death.

As we said in the episode, this movie is a bit…classier than some of the other Hammers from this period. But there’s still plenty to stare at. But the story and acting is really strong.

As for the size of the episode, it is Twin-Sized!!! 😉

      Chris

  3. Thank you, Chris and Cindy, for another great installment of the House of Franklin-stein franchise. You are officially a franchise now, aren’t you? I hope so, because I was planning to get everyone in my family House of Franklin-stein bobble-heads and bottle openers for Christmas.

I haven’t seen Twins of Evil before, and I don’t think they carry a copy at my local library. So I guess I’ll have to wait for it to air on Svengoolie. I’m going to start holding my breath now.

    Congrats on 75 episodes.

    1. I think Sven usually sticks to films in Universal’s library, so Twins probably won’t show up there, unfortunately. Plus, it would be heavily edited.

Like I mentioned, there is a nice print out on YouTube at the moment. Not advocating that, but it is out there. Just sayin’.

I have a huge head, which bobbles anyway, so that merchandise sounds very apropo!

      Chris

  4. I haven’t finished listening to the whole episode yet, but after hearing your discussion about TWINS OF EVIL, I promptly went to YouTube and watched (most of) it. Fun movie. I especially liked the part with the boobies.
