  1. I have never heard of this film, but on your recommendation and the fact that it is Richard Donner’s favorite, I just reserved it at my library!
And congrats on getting to talk to the master. He sounded like a great guy.

    1. Thanks Russell! Yes, INSIDE MOVES is a terrific little movie, so completely different from SUPERMAN. Report back once you’ve seen it! And yes, Dick was truly a great guy to talk to.

  2. What a fantastic interview!! Mr Donner (or are we all allowed to call him Dick?) was a phenomenal guest!! I’ve never seen this particular film, but I’ll be sure to seek it out now! I was completely wrapped up in his stories and storytelling! Wow!!

Congrats Rob & Chris! So cool that you got Richard Donner, and it was a fantastic interview!!

    1. Thanks Shag. IM is available for rent on Amazon and iTunes so it’s very easy to find.

And thanks for the congrats. Yes, this was one of the most exciting things I’ve been involved with. Only because Dick was so friendly was I able to focus on the interview and not get bogged down over the fact this was the guy whose name I saw on the SUPERMAN credits when I was 7. Truly a mind-boggling turn of events.

  3. Excellent Interview!

A few people had recommended Inside Moves to me over the years – and I finally decided to rent it on Amazon. I really liked the film. John Savage was excellent as Roary, definitely see a parallel with his character from The Deer Hunter. But a great cast all around.

It was also moving to see Harold Russell as Wings. I also saw a parallel to The Best Years of Our Lives, in fact there’s a 1940s feel to the whole film, Capra and Wyler come to mind. The characters are recovering from a trauma and trying to find purpose. I found the simple acts of kindness to be the moments with the most resonant, people being decent each other on a human level. None of it comes off as contrived or phony, it’s realistic and life affirming. I would recommend this film to anyone.

  4. Unbelievable.
    Congrats guys.
I have never even heard of this movie, let alone seen it. On the list now.

So happy for you guys. Great interview.

  5. Wow!!!!! That was fantastic! It was really historical of an interview, one of those “if you could go back in time and talk to” moments that actually happened!!! Thank you for this podcast it was very enjoyable.

  6. Wow. Just Wow. You guys did a fantastic job interviewing Mr. Donner and it was a joy to listen to. I have seen this movie in bits and pieces but now want to go back and do a real full on re-watch.

And Rob, first Karen Allen, now Richard Donner!? You are on a roll. Quick, go buy a lottery ticket!!

  7. Great show, and fantastic interview! I like listening to all of your podcasts, although I’m rarely compelled to leave a note. But during this one I was smiling like an idiot the whole time – must be the vicarious thrill of chatting with “Dick”.

Chatting with Dick also happens to be the name of my way, way off Broadway one-man show.

    Cheers!

  8. Wow! What a coup! Congratulations on being able to do this!

Is this the first of (hopefully!) other chats with people connected with SUPERMAN THE MOVIE? I mean, Margot Kidder’s passing has made me all to aware of how many people connected with the film are still with us. I know Jack O’Halloran is pretty active on Facebook, and Sarah Douglas was just on “Supergirl”. The person I’d most love to hear you speak with is Terence Stamp, who seems to have a post-STM filmography that’s deserving of a Film & Water crossover. There PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT and THE LIMEY that I can name off the top of my head.

    Keep up the great work!

    1. Oh, and Terence Stamp was in THE HAUNTED MANSION with Eddie Murphy, but maybe you could pick a different film to focus on?

  9. Congrats on getting Mr Donner, and doing such a great interview! I would’ve been gobsmacked the whole time, so kudos, gentlemen!

  10. Congrats on the big get! Mr. Donner (he didn’t tell ME to call him “Dick.”) sounds like an amazingly down to earth person considering his accomplishments and talent. I had never heard of “Inside Moves” before this show, and now I will seek it out. Also, I agree wholeheartedly with his attitude about not wanting to go to the movies to make yourself feel sad. Way to go, Rob and Chris!
