Stranded on 21st Century Earth, Querl Dox and Nura Nal offer wildly conflicting accounts of the far futures they respectively claim to hail from. Brainiac 5 is still obsessed with taking down Darkseid, which Steve Dayton is all-in for, while Rick Quinn is more concerned with helping Dream Girl return home… or at least making a positive impression in the attempt. Even with the rejection of Cyborg, and counting Omen, there’s at least enough members present to claim to be a quartet. However, said team is promptly detained by Homeland Security’s Project Meta-Marines, led by Major Nicholson and including Metamerican, Tripwire, Gunner, & Wideload. With XS and Kid Flash considered fugitives, the Meta-Marines expect that they might make contact with Dayton. XS’s cousin Impulse had the same idea, and has brought current Teen Titans Naomi, Sideways, Red Arrow, Roundhouse, and Jinny Hex in tow. The already volatile assemblage will explode as more parties show up unexpectedly…

THE INFINITORS Vol. I: WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY TPB (NEW PRINTING)
Written by JAMES ROBINSON and DAVID GOYER
Art by STEPHEN SADOWSKI and others
    Cover by TOM GRUMMETT
The Justice Society of America were the first and finest team of super-heroes, defending the globe since World War II, before bequeathing the role to their successors, Infinity Incorporated. In recent years, both generations have seen an ungodly, unlikely body count. Beginning with the murder of Mr. Terrific by the Spirit King, the successive deaths climbed into the double digits, with few ever fully investigated or avenged. A mysterious client hires private detective Jonni Thunder to determine whether there’s more to the matter than tragic misfortune, and she’s soon partnered with the aging former heavyweight champion Ted “Wildcat” Grant, whether she likes it or not. The pair face increasingly hostile resistance from shady government figures and former friends like Sarge Steel and Director Bones. Falling down a rabbit hole of intrigue and conspiracy, they’re joined in their pursuit of hard-won answers by surviving legacies Jack “Starman” Knight, Mark “Manhunter” Shaw, Alejandro “Firebrand” Sanchez, Al “Nuklon” Rothstein, and Helena “The Fury” Kosmatos. What starts as a mystery develops into a case for the revival of the Justice Society in a startlingly different incarnation! Collects The Infinitors #1-5 and Infinitors Secret Files #1.

Sales are on the bubble, so this may or may not be the penultimate issue of a series that really should have done Harley Quinn numbers, given that we have the same basic shtick. Jamming in a bunch of resolution would be a good time to reflect on why we couldn’t even pull in a Lobo audience (and I’m talking skinny jeans boy band Lobo.) Tyson Aikens’ surplus of omnidimensional energy has opened a wormhole between the already temporally compromised Dinosaur Island and the Earth-18 Justice Riders, who are looking to recover their missing Firehair. Isn’t that what that guy Paris was hanging with once call Lindsey? Anyway, Sarge Steel still has Joe Rock (the Scott Caan of action heroes,) Clock King (not that one,) Ventriloquist (the one with boobs, sorta,) Bolt (not an over-caffeinated soda,) Savant (is Mary Poppins, ya’ll,) the trunk of Captain Storm (’tis merely a flesh wound,) and whatever over-easy company is left still trying to locate Monarch (Nathaniel Adam flavor.) Oh, but see Dumb Bunny has been looking into the whereabouts of her missing ex-husband Irwin Schwab (Task Force X never confirmed his death) and against all odds managed to track down Ambush Bug with her pals in the Inferior 5. Yeah, I can see how this book would fail. Is it too late to tease a queer relationship with Midnighter for clicks? Does Keith still have his number? Tyson is officially coming out as bi-monthly curious, if DC’s interested!

JADE: LEGACY OF THE LANTERN #1
    written by STEPHANIE PHILLIPS
    art by JEREMY DALE
    cover by MICHAEL STA. MARIA
Spinning from the pages of THE LORDS OF ORDER & CHAOS! Jennifer-Lynn Hayden grew up believing herself to be at best an average girl, though she still dared to dream that she may one day become a star. In her more depressive moments, she thought that the green-tinged birthmark on her palm might be some form of cancer or other birth defect. Her way out of those darker moments was always through, spinning the oddity as a tattoo to sell her schoolmates on whatever street credibility that could be won within the affluent Milwaukee suburb of Franklin. It wasn’t until after graduation that she learned the eight-pointed mark would define the rest of her life… that it would begin to take a conscious effort to prevent her skin from turning lime green… that she had been adopted… that she had a twin brother… that she was the daughter of Green Lantern Alan Scott and his villainess Thorn… or rather her dissociative alternate identity of Rose Canton. Her birth mother’s psychological struggles were so severe that she abandoned her children to strangers, and took her own life for fear of murdering them herself.

Her long lost brother, Todd Rice, has had his own difficulties. As open as she’s been to him in her life, she keeps Todd far from her adoptive parents for fear that he could harm them, as he had others and himself. And the birth father that she embraced, in part to offer the more reluctant Todd an alternative to his abusive upbringing, had never truly been emotionally available enough for either of their wants or needs. These would be issues for any young woman, but all three of these people had given over part of their being to the Starheart, a mystical alien power source defined by its connections to Chaos and overwhelming manifestations of will manifested through energy constructs and other, more obscure presentations. Obsidian– Todd– can tap into The Shadowlands, a realm of ebon forces that can threaten all mankind. Dr. Fate– the former Green Lantern– Alan– whose forsaking of the Starheart for the Helm of Nabu doomed him. The Starheart manifested its own humanoid form, the Faustian identity of Neron, and has been developing the full realization of the Age of Chaos that will overtake all of creation.

But the Starheart also lives within Jenny Hayden– Jade– the one being who can still exert control over this cosmic force. Her flighty exterior conceals more troubled depths, including her own bubbling neurodiversions, but one of her greatest abilities is to center herself within a maelstrom. In a universe on the brink of absolute pandemonium, she may be the thin emerald line standing between Order and Chaos…

  5. I love these episodes because they give me a peek into the creative minds of the guests (and Frank). So many interesting pitches this time.

Had I been on this episode, I would have pitched and Ironwolf book by Howard Chaykin with nothing different about the character. It is perfect as it is.

And now my one pitch, Infinity Man (sort of like Siskoid’s). Can I crack the ‘ugh the Forever People’? (You might recall I pitched a Beautiful Dreamer book way back in episode 2).

    Infinity Man
    Written by Tom King
    Drawn by Darick Robertson

The Infinity Man was a cosmically powerful being, a tranquil philosopher who was apathetic to the 4th World wars. Worried he might enter the war on the New Genesis side, he was cursed by Darkseid to be tied to a near infinite number of groups, being able to be summoned and compelled to help them (the Forever People being one such group). After untold years of living under the yoke of the desires of different people’s desires, the Infinity Man cracks. He decides the best way to get back to who he was is to kill Darkseid. He begins to travel to Apokolips but is often summoned, breaking his mission. Sometimes he helps the people who summoned him. Sometimes he kills them so they cannot interfere with his ultimate goal again. But who will the Infinity Man be once he makes it to Apokolips? The peaceful being he was? Or some twisted murderer, at home on Darkseid’s dark world?

    1. I like the pitch, Anj!

And I will continue to advocate for the Forever People. The Kirby book was a lot of fun, and the fact no one’s been able to do anything good with them since is no strike against them, but against the creative teams who have made the attempt since. All the FP-related pitches on the show have been, on the whole, more interesting than what we’ve gotten in real life.

          1. But yeah, it’s interesting to take a look back and see what characters I (or a guest) was precious about, and which ones I felt I could (or should!) throw out with the bath water. Outsiders didn’t do well almost as a joke, though Katana being such a pure concept, she might do okay in the next episode. Despite my general ambivalence about the Infinitors, the link to the the JSA kept them fairly on track. We’ve only have a few New Titans with mixed results.

But those characters aren’t tied to the team necessarily. They could easily appear by themselves or teaming up with Batman or something. Omega Men, Atari Force, Forever People and because of their era, to some extent the Legion are not designed as solo stars, so guest and I have tended to reimagine them regardless of our love or lack of it. Me, I like to work on the Forever People, while the Omega Men are usually a bit of a puzzle because I don’t care about them in any way.

          2. On her own, Siskoid, Katana is a great idea! In fact, most of the Outsiders would be interesting solo characters (MOST). But as a team…we’ll, we share an opinion.

Are you genuinely unsure if Infinity Man is merging of the FP or if he swaps places with them? Because now I’m wondering….

  6. I steadfastly avoid commenting on anyone else’s pitches, since even my compliments tend to come out caustic, but I do consume all things Who’s Editing. If you’d put a gun to my head and asked me which property Anj would pitch, I’d have come out just fine. I think reverse-columbos are still illegal in Georgia.

      1. Or… ORRRR… you’re the guy who devoted write-ups on a spare group blog that never took off to weird short-lived obscure science fantasy characters by notable creators from the 1970s which you still periodically plug via social media a decade on. You have a type. “Oh Anj– he likes them with long dark hair, firm thighs, broadswords, and a hint of The Studio.”

    cover by RAMON VILLALOBOS
The Reyes’ phone line in El Paso was tapped, and the family is now being held captive by the Sons of Liberty, a militant far-right group with secret ties to top members of the former presidential administration. Jaime can’t just rush in with his borrowed Blue Beetle costume in tatters, and he won’t drag his friends into a probable government trap. Tapping into his heritage, Jaime pulls together a lucadore outfit and a plan to get his family to safety. Back in Chicago, Maxwell Lord has arrived with his stripped-down Checkmate squad of Thomas Tresser, Veronica Lopez, Maribel, and Little Knipper to bolster the efforts of The Gang. It’s perfect timing, as The Council has caught up with their betrayers, and the former Nemesis has a particular interest in the expanded activities of his old foes. Booster Gold would surely object to Lord’s presence, but he’s tied up dodging… another Captain Atom? None of them realize that the Reach are now in upper Earth atmosphere, joined by the forces of The Insect Queen. All this, plus “Ted Kord” is still missing with their Beetle exo-suit…

As it turns out, Baron Winters was fighting two wars simultaneously, the corporeal Baronry Conflict in Europe, and an ethereal one between the Lords of Order and Chaos. Having run afoul of Shivering Jemmy of the Shallow Brigade, his war is now over. Meanwhile, the so-called “weirdness magnet” instilled into the Blue Devil suit was actually the previously disembodied essence of Vandaemeon, displaced from the nihil-verse by Kent Nelson. The former Brimstone, Annabeth Chamberlain, has succumbed to Vertisol while having absconded wearing the Blue Devil skin suit. The hospitalized Cinnamon has reached out to an A.R.G.U.S. associate, Johnny Peril, in hopes of recovering the suit before Neron can use it to release the Lord of Chaos. Captain Cold doesn’t want to be anywhere near this scene, but Sarge Steel has leveraged him into service. The Flayed Devil, Daniel Cassidy, must form a new Shadowpact around Enchantress, Heat Wave, Captain Cold, and the Prideful Ghost, while the highly reluctant Santi’s biggest concern is still cutting around a strung-out Wayne Tarrant. However, escaping a supernatural inferno with his own skin and a work print are still fairly high priorities. This looks like a job for… Open-Window Man?

    CREEPER #7
    written by CHRISTOPHER SEBELA
    art by MARCIO TAKARA
    cover by STEVE SCOTT
Jack Ryder had been trying to keep a low profile since the authorities began asking questions about “The Qreeper’s” involvement in a peaceful protest at the Capitol earlier this year, but his recent tussle with that feminazi Pagan attracted unwanted attention. Worse, his good (only) friend Reggie Long could not be dissuaded from continuing to pursue their investigation into The Ninth Circle, triggering an attack from The Longbow Hunters. Without help, they’re not long for this world, but John Diggle isn’t exactly feeling charitable after getting dragged into Ryder’s mess with the Sons of Odin. The new (?) Rorschach is also keeping the still-catatonic “fugitive” Ira Quimby, mentally hobbled as one of the last acts of Prometheus. It could be their good (collateral) fortune that the Brotherhood of Quetzalcoatl have dispatched Aztek the Ultimate Woman to dampen their muckraking. The Shadow Cabinet has also come looking, but when Merlyn plants a shaft between their archer’s eyes, the situation only looks to escalate.

THE LORDS OF ORDER & CHAOS TIE-IN! With the cretinous J.E.B. Stuart fully exorcised and the original Haunted Tank completely destroyed, a more modern model will have to be brought to bear against Basilisk. Previously, A.R.G.U.S.’ Steve Trevor had deployed a S.T.A.R. Labs Cyber-Command Assault Vehicle as a family affair, controlled by Lieutenant Jennifer “Jen” Stuart with her brother Sgt. Scott Stuart and cousin Sgt. Jamal Stuart. Guided by the ghost of their grandfather, the crew seek to retrieve the commander crystal Dragoneer delivered to Regulus. Luckily, Grifter has access to a “dragon” of his own, though it’s through the bounty hunter Hex, and she happens to be seeking to collect a reward on him. With Nyi’tarla and Eclipso at his beckoning, Dean Higgins could usurp Jason Burr as Naja Naja ahead of the Kali Yuga. However, having access to the power of a Lord of Chaos and maintaining control of one are far separate claims. Plus, Agents Orange and Wax’s SPB abilities coerce Dart into using her lover Grifter with intent toward aiding their pursuit of Voodoo.

Art by STEPHEN SADOWSKI and others
    Cover by MIKE GUSTOVICH
A team made up of heroes from the present and legends from the past, the Infinitors finds themselves fighting their history and their future. Following the twists and betrayals upon their reunion, more original Infinity Incorporated members return to confront their darkness-consumed friend Obsidian, son of Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern and current Sentinel. Just as Starman, The Fury, Wildcat, Nuklon, Northwind, and Iron Munro begin to recover from this emotional and physical battle, they find themselves pitted against their old foes, the Injustice Society. Rising stakes require revived alliances, as the Infinitors are joined by Fate, the Huntress, Hourman, Doctor Mid-Nite, and a modern girl with her own edgy “genie” in the form of Anima. Even still, the Infinitors are pushed to the limit, as an assault from Injustice Unlimited comes hard and fast from many places at once in the epic ‘Injustice be Done’. Collects The Infinitors #6-15.

The former Human Bomb has been vital in the overthrow of Turkey’s authoritarian government, but can he be trusted as someone with ties to the Nuclear Legion? 11. BEAUTIFUL DREAMER #10
    written by GRACE ELLIS
    art by POP MHAN
    cover by ARIEL OLIVETTI
The Final Day had come again, a holiday shared by New Genesis and Apokolips, commemorating the fall of Old Gods. After the seeming demise of his half-brother Drax within the Omega Realm, Izaya felt a duty to protect their youngest sibling Uxas from the wrath of their father. A war had secretly been instigated by Uxas, and the only path to restored peace came with the death of Yuga Khan at the hand of his youngest son. From out of this conflict came the time of the New Gods.

It was on this holiday’s last passing that Dreamer had betrayed her lover and the father of her child to Izaya. It was not intentional, merely a circumstance wherein Dreamer and the Highfather shared a vision of their deepest secrets… In her case, Big Bear’s long simmering plot to kill Izaya, which ultimately provoked the course of events leading to the New Gods’ current dire circumstances.

Izaya had shared the location of The Source Shard, a rectangular obelisk representing the last standing structure of the Old Gods’ original Source Wall. It was here that Izaya had become Highfather, and inconceivably, where his lowliest subjects Beautiful Dreamer and Bug have found themselves. But they are not alone… terrified to find, after months of mystery as to his activities and whereabouts, Orion prostrating nude before this direct link to The Source itself. And within the Shard, visions of the captive Infinity Man, demanding the murder of the New Gods… hopefully not beginning with Dreamer?

    written by TOM KING
art & cover by RAGS MORALES
Despite an enduring affection for one another, Al Pratt was a closeted homosexual, and was unable to fulfill every need of his spouse, Mary. Thanks to their exposure to supernatural energies in the 1940s, the Pratts’ aging was so retarded that Mary was able to conceive into the 1980s, a very long time to choose not to have a child. Motivated in part by the three million dead in New York City during a failed alien invasion, Pratt initiated an affair with a handsome military officer. Parties that helped orchestrate the affair murdered Mary and abduct her baby, listed as stillborn, during a separation from her estranged husband…

Klaus Schimmel was the Third Reich’s greatest biogeneticist, responsible for the creation of Baron Blitzkrieg and Axis Amerika. In a prime example of irony, after escaping to America with the help of the O.S.S., he took on a new Jewish cover identity as Egrin Wahrman. Few would have recognized him as otherwise, but Terry Kurtzberger was among them…

At Paris Island, Howell Rice, also known as Commando X, offers an impassioned plea to the Black citizens of Dakota City to escape with him to Manta’s undersea kingdom of Onyx. In San Francisco, Jonny Double offers Cinder & Ashe support against Nightlash, employed by Kobra to recover the psionic armor thought lost in the explosion at the original Combine headquarters. Freedom’s Ring’s races to Sweden, where the Iron Major leads the Nuclear Legion as part of a northward reach for the Final Reich.

Ralph Dibny has read Hollis Mason’s book “Under The Hood,” and is shocked to find it corroborated by the A.S.A. files, despite no one seeming to remember the circumstances described. The American Security Agency and Shadowspire were supposed to be jokes… forgettable afterthoughts. Now Ralph is uncovering ties to the most high profile assassinations of the 1960s, and secret super-heroes that helped the United States triumph in the Vietnam War. More pressing, their ties to the international Ninth Circle syndicate, of which his tenuous partner Eddie Fyers is a gun-carrying member…

Ray Palmer has put the pieces together– that Hareekarat Chawney is part of the very same Shadow Cabinet that formed the Demon Knights and Stormwatch– that his Shadowspire had armed drug dealers and housed wretches like Baron Blitzkrieg. With Hawkwoman seemingly vaporized, it’s up to Hawkman, Aqualad, the Atoms, and the Heroes of Dakota (Starlight, Donner, Blitzen, Iota, Payback and Gloria Mundi) to break through to reach Dharma, who is entertaining a very influential guest…

The Knights’ former ally Albert Michaels has been transformed into a horrifying vision by the international crime cabal SKULL, who have rallied much of the villainous forces formerly under the banner of the late Baron Bedlam to continue the European campaign. Michaels’ familiarity with the Knights’ tech has allowed SKULL to seize control of the unit, and even with S.T.A.R. Labs’ John Cloud and the Numbskulls having liberated Sgt. Grayle, the odds are far from favorable that the rest of the team can be freed. Lucky for them that reinforcements arrive in the form of The Veteran, Lt. Ilsa von Hammer, Sgt. Tommy “Tink” Tinker: the Clockwork Commando, and the Professor’s own cousin Captain Cloud! Still, they’ll have to contend with the Skeleton Crew, formerly of the Fearsmiths!

Speaking of von Chaos, the Baron’s army is ready to stamp out both Doom Patrols, if The New Brotherhood of Evil don’t do it first. But it gets worse, because King Brion of Markovia wants to settle the remaining peripheral disputes amongst the Barony, and leads his Insiders (Metamorpho, Atlee, Halo, Geode, Scream Queen, Freight Train, Wylde, & Karma) with the intent to crush any metahuman threats to his reign!

On Earth-2, Ben-Hassin had dedicated his life to training as a mystical Mamluk, pretending ignorance while working with Kendra Munoz-Saunders and the World Army to claim a Helm of Fate. Now the janissary mage must seek out the Tear of Extinction and access to the Death Force as one of the too few agents of Order choosing to make a final stand as the universe succumbs to the Kali Yuga…
