Who’s Editing #8: Flashes in the Pan

Fire and Water Presents: Who's Editing Episode 8! Firestorm! The Flash(es)! The Freedom Fighters! That last one, and the events of the past year if not the past month, really begged for a more overtly political take on the experiment, and that's just what Siskoid and his guest, the clearly mad Diabolu Frank (Rolled Spine Podcasts) have given us!

This podcast is a proud member of the FIRE AND WATER PODCAST NETWORK:

Theme: "Révolution" by Les Sherpas.

CONQUEST OF THE BARON EARTH TIE-IN! Mustafa Aman has struggled for months under the scrutiny of the Turkish government, partially fueled by the outside influence of The Great Question. That threat is now magnified, as President Erdoğan has fallen under the sway of The Duke of Deception. The Grecian manipulator is expanding his dominion beyond Bialya to brace for conflict with The Barony, and if Amazing-Man, Catman, and Doktor Simya refuse to join his developing army of Mediterranean metahumans, at minimum their privacy, if not their very lives, will be forfeit!

So Tyson got the Legion Subs and the lady Ventriloquist nobody liked killed, as you do with a Suicide Squad. Would now be a bad time to mention that most of Ventriloquist’s jokes were off last issue because they were written for Dollmaker, but the Canary office pulled her at the last minute? Anyway, the Men of War (not actual name) led by Joe Rock got everybody else but the Bug out. Monarch, who is Nathaniel Adam by the way (yes, we’re using Extreme Justice continuity. Brain: Imploded.) has “improved” Ambush Bug’s teleportation to span space and time. Landing in World War Two, surrounded by the guns of Easy Company, not gonna lie, it was comforting to see Jackie Johnson among them. I mean, it’s not a lot, but it’s something. And it’s not like Tyson couldn’t have just killed the lot of them, but butterfly effect, and maybe Jackie was his great-grandfather or something (he’s not, Roy. They don’t even have the same last name, man.) Super original idea to have Monarch bounce Ambush Bug around the time stream, right? Look, if Keith and Marc could still be doing vaudeville routines in the ’80s, they can damned sure riff on Armageddon: The Alien Agenda. If you didn’t read it, it’s new to you!

Not unlike the Los Angeles Dodgers of 2016, Santi has the dubious distinction of witnessing close up the Cubs of super-villains, the Demolition Team, stand triumphant. His Hollywood dreams appear to be the latest casualty of the Blue Devil curse, as the production has been shut down, and Jock Verner is set to settle for an insurance claim. If anyone knows about curses though, it’s the Enchantress, a former associate of Dan Cassidy’s whose possession by a literal witch is in a peak manic phase in sunny Burbank, CA. This was cinematographer Norm Paxton’s last chance as well, and he’s not willing to quit just yet. Where there’s a camera, there’s a way, and that crazy witch may be the third act finale that could save the picture.

Following a harrowing dream of genocide, Wesley Dodds approaches King Faraday about a plot to assassinate Joseph Stalin before he can advance his plans for a Russian equivalent to the “final solution.” Among the Jewish physicians falsely accused of killing top Soviet leaders was a U.S. spy, and the C.B.I. were justifiably concerned that he might give up other assets under the torture being applied to coerce “confessions” in the so-called “Doctors’ Case.” Of course, it would be no small matter to get someone close enough to Stalin’s vacation home, especially given his well documented aversion to doctors and general paranoia. Dodds and Faraday reach out to their British friends for possible assistance, including one Jenny Sparks. Meanwhile, “Tex” Thomson pays Guy Pompton a visit in prison after receiving an envelope full of evidence that could incriminate him regarding communist dalliances in his Hollywood days.

  2. I *think* I followed most of Frank’s title descriptions. But when he mentioned ‘super charged Supergirl defeating the anti-monitor’, The Gang being a major villain, and Fallen Angel, I was hooked. Yay Team Kara!

As always, lots of interesting books on both sides and so I must give you my one idea:

    Furies:
This is my legacy book. It takes place in the present looking at the interaction between the two women using the name Fury,

We see the ‘Golden Age’ Fury but she actually was a hero in the late 80s. She has the same conceit. Wonder Woman like powers but can Hulk out when enraged. That sort of heroing was perfect for the 80s but in the socially conscience 2020’s, she is looked at with a jaundiced eye for her casual destruction and perceived indifference to social causes. She is basically a centrist but is viewed as being extreme right.

And we see her daughter, Lyta Hall Fury, a current super-hero. All the basic powers but without the Hulk-like manifestations. She is a social justice warrior more apt to try and destroy billionaires than bring in petty robbers. stealing to feed their family.

We get action sequences for both with the occasional team-up. But also lots of mother/daughter interaction, on a mostly friendly basis, as both sides try to promote the underlying positive aspects of their world viewpoints. And maybe both sides will learn something.

I guess I would want this book to be the sort of ‘let’s extend our hands across the aisle’ book to explore social causes in a more constructive and not destructive way.

Plus, I love the Golden Age Fury.

    1. I was gonna say Earth-2 Fury since she didn’t exist in the Golden Age, but then there wasn’t an Earth-2 by the time she premiered, was there? Poor Fury. Yeah, I like her too. Due for a comeback, but Nubia will have to do for now (and do very well).

      1. I didn’t intentionally up the Supergirl content, so it was clearly an unconscious preferential bias at work. Also, because I don’t listen closely to directions, I was briefly developing a Gang ongoing series for the podcast that will probably get folded into the comments game.

I’ve barely read any “Golden Age” Fury content, since my tolerance for Roy Thomas was already tapped out by All-Star Squadron andInfinity Inc. before I even made it to Young All-Stars. Obviously I’m Fury-curious (not remotely like furry-curious) because of the Wonder Woman connection, but even when Phil Jimenez brought her into the book, she was a misfit. Lyta Hall was such a blank slate under Roy Thomas that you could pretty much go in whatever direction you’d want with her. Gaiman gave her more elements of a personality, but she was still a situation rather than a person to me.

They had an Earth-Two Fury in Earth 2 that was a cross between Siskoid’s proposal and Hippolyta Trevor. She was basically an angrier and more Apokolips-committed Barda, but the daughter of the deceased Wonder Woman that was raised by Steppenwolf.

Given what a mess they made of the Furys, Nubia’s got the better odds story-wise going forward, even setting aside the representation aspect. I’m actually buying all the DC Comics Nubia product that’s coming out right now, which I haven’t been able to say of Wonder Woman for most of the post-Flushpoint period.

Captured by Strike Force Kobra and en route to the Middle East, Atom Smasher is rescued by Black Adam as part of an escalation in hostilities between Kahndaq and the cult. Having left the Earth far behind, Jon ST-94 and Kris HCG-50 make the acquaintance of Dr. Jonathan Osterman. Ray Palmer and the Hawks return to the C.B.I. to report, only to find the agency is no more, with forces in the intelligence community aligning against them. The investigations of Ralph Dibny, Eddie Fyers, and Steve Trevor all cross paths, and their shared notes cast the shadow of doubt on one of their own. THE FLASHPOINT PREEMPTION HC
written by DAN ABNETT & ANDY LANNING
art & cover by GREG CAPULLO and JONATHAN GLAPION
The red-hot, sold-out five-issue miniseries from DnA and Greg Capullo is back in a new hardcover!

Barry Allen was The Fastest Man Alive– so fast that in a bid to remake the universe from the beginning of time, The Anti-Monitor had sought The Flash’s power to accomplish this feat. But Barry Allen was one of the truest super-heroes that had ever lived. The Flash escaped his captor, and running faster than he ever had before, destroyed the device necessary for the evil plot to succeed. In those final moments, Barry thought of the loved ones that he was saving, like his bride Iris West. And that’s when he figured it out.

You shouldn’t transplant a criminologist and an investigative journalist from the present day to the 30th Century and expect that they won’t uncover your plot. Iris was working toward the same conclusion a thousand years later. She was bait. Iris’ parents had rendered her an orphan stranded a millennium in the past because they were holding out for a hero. In their sterile, suffocatingly cold technocracy, the only hope for reviving the soul of humanity was through extraordinary means– metahumanity.

Iris Allen gave birth to the first super-heroes of the 30th Century, her Tornado Twins, who would go on to inspire a Legion of Super-Heroes. But every action has an equal and opposite reaction. There were those who would oppose metahumanity– who would deny progress– refusing to be displaced or disempowered. People like Professor Eobard Thawne, who would cast himself as a Reverse Flash, racing backwards through time to destroy his namesake at various crucial points in history.

From the future, Iris brings her grandchildren XS and Impulse to preserve the past.

From the past, Barry Allen races to alter his future, to save the lives of his children, who seem fated to perish at the hands of the alien Dominators to serve as martyrs for the next generation.

Somewhere in the middle, these three forces will impact, and the DC Universe will never be the same again!

  4. Some great characters in this issue, and some interesting, extremely in-depth takes – Frank’s Firecrotch is amazing, and I Iike Siskoid’s idea for a Nagasaki ghost Firestorm – spooky.

It’s very interesting that with Felicity both of you saw a furry character and went straight to the sex worker bit…

I’m NOT with Frank in that I certainly would keep the Legion in the 30th century – I hate the constant practice of DC writers of putting the characters in the past. What’s the point, the current day has enough heroes, take away the Legion’s USP and there’s no point to them.

As for my take on one of this issue’s characters, I might combine Andrew Nolan with Brin Londo and make him Feral Lad… (This is why I couldn’t be on this show, it’d be all terrible, very quick, gags!)

    1. Call a fetish a fetish, I guess.

With the Legion, here it’s a matter of using a few characters in the line, divorced from the Legion concept, but I’ve still tried to mix it up. Sometimes they’re in the future, sometimes they’re reimagined for today, sometimes they’re “legion lost” (but I haven’t done a lot of that, because I do think it’s the weakest premise).

Feral Lad, I like that. In other words, give Timber Wolf a metal skeleton, cough cough.

      1. I’m not going to front on a lack of kinks, but the fact that I had to google whether it was “Furries” or “Furrys” should out me as not being anthropomorphic-curious. I don’t even keep pets. The sex worker angle is directly out of Who’s Who. She’s an exotic dancer who grew up in a slave harem. It’s just the text.

Firecrotch is a perfect example of the thing you put the least effort into being the best received. It was the rubbish I lazily tossed off to research more immortals, so of course Forever People gets cancelled after six issues and the poster behind me at the con heralds me as the creator of Vark. But I’ll still cash the checks and angle for a cameo in the movie adaptation.

The Iron Age starts in the 30th Century and Fatal Fire never leaves. My name isn’t Robert J. Kelly over here. There’s a stronger case against me in the comments game, but I’m sending more and more characters into the 30th Century to make up for all the Legion ex-pats.

Too bad for Cosmic Boy that the villainous team the Fearsome Five was also monitoring the craft’s trajectory. THE BLUE BEETLE #6
    written by RAVEN GREGORY
    art by FERNANDO DAGNINO
cover by BRETT BOOTH & NORM RAPMUND
The Gang never meant to be villains. They were poor kids from the South Side who just wanted a way out, and “Brains” figured it out. She came up with a formula for super-strength, and not being a dummy, talked one of her acquaintances into drinking it. It worked for “Bulldozer,” mostly, and with some refinements it was even better for “Kong.” There were still side effects, which is why Brains never took it herself, and why she had to come up with the “Ms. Mesmer” gear for her bestie. Being teenagers, it seemed like a good idea to get the seed money for all of this from a new out-of-town outfit, who turned out to be The Council, who were quietly taking over the world. The Gang never asked to have punchouts with Supergirl, and not being completely immoral, they used their abilities and connections to sabotage The Council for years. Now on the one hand, they’re found out, and the Council won’t rest until every single one of them is dead. On the other hand, Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are in town, also targeted by the Council, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the potential…

  6. Still listening, but loving these WHO’S EDITING episodes as always! Since there is a heavy-Firestorm presence, I felt I should follow-up on your comments.

Regarding Firebrand/Firehawk (both the surname Reilly), I’m not aware of any Roy-Thomas-ian connections in comics, though fans have been talking for years about Danette being a grandmother to Lorraine. Somewhat related, there was a fun SUPER TEAM FAMILY post connecting Lorraine Reilly and Ben Reilly (Scarlet Spider). I may have helped facilitate that pairing. 🙂
    https://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/2015/06/firehawk-and-ben-reilly.html

I adore both your Firestorm ideas! Seriously, both sound fantastic and well worth reading. The atomic ghost, and the mother/son pairing would be excellent reads! Sorry to disappoint, I know Siskoid was hoping to disturb me with these Firestorm picks. My only question is to Frank’s comments about the Conway run on Firestorm. Frank said that Ronnie Raymond and Professor Martin Stein poisoned the idea of “Flash Thompson becoming Nova”. Not sure I understand the “poison” part. Meaning something about that pairing? Or what was done with the characters subsequently?

With that said, you did manage to raise my hackles with Frank’s Firehawk idea!! Not the overall concept itself, but digging deep into the continuity of the Firestorm Protocols & Zither (New 52) and the Superman Theory (Doomsday Clock). Damn it man, I’d almost purged that garbage from my brain. Now you’ve reopened those wounds! Firehawk deserved better!

Frank is correct, I’m an easy mark for Siskoid’s Tangent Flash idea! Love it!!

And finally, of course Frank worked in a reference to the Flame of Py’tar. I’m just surprised Frank didn’t squeeze out another 30 minutes on the subject! LOL!

Again, loving the episode!! I’m not done yet, and already desperate for the next episode!

    1. I internally squeed at the Flame of Py’tar, but let it pass without comment so as to avoid those 30 minutes. OR ARE THEY ON THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR?!

Glad you liked the Firestorms, Shagg. There have been so many permutations at this point, that I think it’s easy to accept a new one. A bit like the Hulk.

    2. I can’t believe Ross is still doing Super Team Family posts. That must be exhausting. Also, what is a blog again?

I wish I had the money to pay someone to read my scripts instead of torturing myself and others by doing the actual vocal delivery. I have a voice that was made for newsprint, and Siskoid audibly had to make some hard editing cuts. Whether I misspoke or something got lost, the intention was to state that Ronnie & Stein have been poisoned. They’ve taken on too much heavy baggage across too many miles of road to be the lighter, all-ages duo. I don’t think that you can do the book Conway set out to do in the ongoing continuity with those characters (or even Jason) anymore. You either start with completely new characters or have the original pair in their own separate continuity, but even then someone would ask where the characters of color went. That’s why they’re in the Firehawk book instead of the Firestorm one.

I think it was in the unreleased post-game material where Siskoid and I talked about some of our selections in greater detail, and I cursed a fair amount about what a waste of time the Nuclear Men research was. I wasn’t aware that Joe Harris was hired to strangle every EVS character and concept to death before Jurgens came on. At least I got to marry Doomsday Clock to all those swell Zithertech references. Anyway, I blame you for putting on a brave face while covering all that material on your blogs/podcasts. You were the swimming pool cover that bound me as I sank into the true depths of that abandoned waterhole.

I’m the Peter Cottontail of Who’s Editing Easter eggs, so of course I had to get some kind of Martian Manhunter element in there. He was supposed to be working with the aliens as a double agent within Vandal Savage’s Stormwatch, but that entry was too long already.

The Dummy has enlisted his old Injustice Unlimited partner The Fiddler to reach across the worlds to connect him with his recent, secret cohort– The Geek. Refugees from The Monsterlands, the automatons seek to be more than real boys, but real menaces. Black Canary learns of the plot from the captive Wizard, and this may well be the moment that she’s been waiting for. Fiddler’s command of vibratory frequencies could be her ticket to Apokolips, and the would-be Female Fury Cheetah is similarly keen to reach Steppenwolf. The Huntress would sooner die than allow any avenue for Darkseid to again assail Earth-2, leaving our heroines at loggerheads.

Here is what we know: It’s not a mutation of COVID-19. It’s far too specific in scope. While there are pockets all over the world, it is centered mostly in the major metropolitan areas of the United States, with an intense concentration within Gotham City. Based on Oracle’s database, the affected population is disproportionately metahuman or adjacent– masked vigilantes, costumed criminals, cops, and super-spies. Coronavirus precautions have minimized spread outside these extraordinary communities, but its reach is expanding. Transmission appears to be from direct physical contact. There’s nothing of note to be found in the nares or taken from the respiratory tract. It’s carnivorous, craving muscle, flesh and bone. Decalcification makes bones brittle; skin dries and cracks; muscles harden; the rigidity impairing movement and stifling breathing. Kirk Langstrom has it, and his broken body has been intubated after being dragged out of the harbor. Midnighter is showing symptoms. Robin isn’t. It’s not “The Clench,” but Raʼs al-Ghūl’s handwriting is all over this one. That’s our starting point, but first, Firefly is having a freakout, trying to burn away the contagion, and Gotham City with it…

However, a top toxicologist happens to reside in Gotham, and anyway, the collective martial prowess is enough to set even Talons aback. Unfortunately for the lot of them, Poison Ivy is captive to her former mentor the Floronic Man, who is himself a general in Anton Arcane’s supernatural army of Arkham inmates. If the White Canary clan has any hope of replicating the antidote in time to save the increasing throng of poisoned parties, they’ll have to brave a harrowing gauntlet of madness and menace.

  8. Great work, gentlemen! By which, of course, I mean that most of your ideas paralleled the ones I came up with as I played at home. A few variations on the themes that you developed:

    1. Firehair- Definitely a tricky character to redeem. I would want to find an indigenous person to write, but I want to go in an almost counter White Messiah direction. It is set in the modern day. Joelle Cuthbert (a bit of an obvious homage), is needing a restart after her marriage crumbles in the wake of her husband’s infidelity. She takes a job as a school teacher on the Blackfoot reservation, confident that she will be the one to save the poor uncivilized Indian children. This, of course, is a dismal failure, as she is patronizing and oblivious (It is here that she is nicknamed Firehair by her students, as they mock her view of them). Over time, however, preconceived notions are put aside, student and teacher learn to respect and learn from one another, and, instead of saving her students, Firehair comes to see that her students may be her salvation. Think the short-lived sitcom Perfect Harmony with Bradley Whitford, but on a reservation.

    2. Firelad- Probably my goofiest idea (and I know that’s saying something), but I present “Stag and The Fire Lads.” Basically, the Fire Lads are Boy Scouts on steroids, so named for their Olympic level proficiency at building campfires. So, Stag is the greatest of the Fire Lads, and he and his compatriots each issue use their survival skills to save the day in very low stake adventures (finding the camper that gets lost in the woods, etc.) I want it to be a graphic novel version of the boy scout magazine Boy’s Life mixed with the morality-tale style shorts starring the Wonder Twins in the old Super Friends cartoon. The tone is tough to strike. I am seeing this as parody, but it has to be played straight, like Batman ’66 insofar as you can enjoy it for what it is even if you aren’t in on the joke.

    3. Flash I/II- these definitely need to be companion books. I think it is telling that both of you landed on Jay Garrick’s defining trait: he’s old! I did the same. My Jay book is “Flashback” and effectively involves Jay as a narrator, sitting on a porch surrounded by grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he recounts stories from his glory days. Like most of my ideas, it’ll be humorous, as suggestions will be made that Jay may be verging on senility and is a less than reliable narrator (imagine Grampa Simpson had been a super hero), and so the stories will grow increasingly unbelievable as time goes by. Oddly, I also landed on the Tangent Flash as my protagonist for “Flash Forward,” largely because I love the dichotomy of the really old Flash and the really young. This would be a fairly straightforward “teen learning to deal with her power while also navigating the pressures of being a teen” story. Not much extra to add here.

    4. Force of July / Freedom Fighters- I guess having these two as companion books is an obvious step since we all decided to go that route. I agree with Siskoid’s alignment, with the Force as the conservatives and Freedom Fighters as the liberals. My only twist on the trope is an effort to be a bit more even handed, and I think that happens with the choice of creative teams. I feel like I’d pull us off sides by naming any specific names, but I would want well known conservative voices on the Force of July book and well known liberal creators on the Freedom Fighters. I think we lose some credibility when we have creators writing the viewpoint opposite of their own. It always comes off as inauthentic and a bit of a straw man. If nothing else, it could be an interesting thought experiment. Editorial gives the topic of the month (“This month both of you will be addressing the issue of immigration”), let the creative team develop their story where their point of view is the “right” way for the heroes to respond, and let the academics compare and contrast.

    5. Forgotten Heroes- Siskoid mostly stole my idea here. I love the idea of this being a showcase for obscure DC heroes. The only addition that I would add is that the book would explain why these heroes were obscure. What if every one of these one off heroes were actually the most important heroes in history, so important that a Rann-like planet that lacks heroes of its own abducts those heroes and has them fight their villains for them? Decades pass and, out of nowhere, the heroes return to their world, unaware of how or why they have returned. Somehow they must adjust to returning to a world that has left them behind while struggling with the reoccurring question, “Why am I home?” I’m admittedly stealing a bunch of this from the very fine Marvel series “The Twelve” from 2008. Worth a read if you haven’t had a chance.

    6. Fury- Frank made a great point about takes on Wonder Woman that would work except that people have a strong preconceived notion about who Diana is supposed to be. Much like Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing being a take that people can’t get past, I feel like George Perez’s shadow looms large on the Amazing Amazon. For me, Fury is the chance to tell Wonder Woman stories divorced from all the Greek God High drama that Perez interjected and that bores me to tears. Lyta is an all American girl with tremendous power,so naturally she puts on a costume and fights crime. It would be pretty straightforward pre-crisis Wonder Woman style super-heroics, but if the art’s as nice as what is found in this Jerry Ordway entry, I don’t think anyone would object too much.

As a final aside, It feels like Frank has invested far more energy into thinking about DC’s “New Age of Heroes” than anyone else ever has, including those who wrote the stories.

    1. Some great ideas there, Phylemon, and here I thought you were against change of any sort!

As for the political issue, let me be clear that I don’t lampoon the Right, but rather the ALT-Right, who I don’t think deserve a voice at my DC.

      1. Phylemon, Firehair wins again. The necessarily radical (but thoughtful or amusing) reinventions seem to be the most fun in general. Nobody’s getting their toys taken away from them by jacking with a Firehair. Although we all seem to want to euthanize Jay Garrick. But nicely, after a few afternoons drinking mint juleps on the porch swing with the demented old coot.

I tried to make sure the Left/Right paradigm books were staffed with people that to some degree shared the worldview being represented. It was always weird to me that they only ever had Bill Willingham draw JLI stories when his sense of humor and ability to shift gears into high stakes adventure would have been perfect for JLE or post-Hughes J.L.A. So he got the Center-Right book, while accused-problematic Punisher scribe Nathan Edmondson got the Alt-Right book (as I couldn’t bring myself to go full-Malin. Yet.) I’d be more inclined to handle shared topics as a one-off like that great ’80s Daredevil/Punisher crossover rather than making it a routine issue-of-the-month assignment for multiple creative teams.

The first line of your Forgotten Heroes pitch sent my mind in another direction, basically a feature length version of “Whatever Happened To…” where you acknowledge the absence of these characters and tell unfettered “final” tales with unused heroes ala a lower stakes version of Marvel’s “The End” specials.

Despite my long-winded, canon & mythology take on The Fury, I’d be more likely to read Phylemon’s version. Perez Wonder Woman mostly bores me to tears as well, which is why I favor her return to super-heroics under Messner-Loebs (before Byrne bored me by going too far in the same direction.)

Finally, a major driving force for me in both the comments game and the guest spot was the motivation to examine the post-New 52 DC Universe specifically because it’s the unexplored country for me. I wouldn’t have ever bothered visiting there without the motivation of methodically researching these properties from an opposing, anti-nostalgic angle from the original Who’s Who, since we already covered that ground several times over via the Rob & Shag show. One of the central conceits in my view is to find the innovations worth saving and burning the rest of it to the ground.

Dreamer had never belonged in Supertown. She wasn’t born there– never given a proper name or an equitable upbringing. When she first met her “friends,” she was dirty and dressed in rags. They had accepted her, and liberated her when she had been kidnapped by Darkseid, but there was always a remove from her being less than. The Bug understood this, being born as vermin under foot of the New Gods, in spite of secretly being one of them. His kind had fought and died to scrape by on the barest necessities withheld from them by the so-called Highfather. Dreamer had known Highfather’s kindness once, but she was no longer his concern as the scheme of things shifted ever grander. Dreamer was a sworn pacifist, but society has collapsed, and the likes of Magnar would demand she become his concubine for basic sustenance. This Bug, this “food seeker,” had handed Dreamer Acid-Pods and guided her through the dark inner-world of New Genesis. If the New Gods would disregard her humanity as they had this “micro-life,” Dreamer’s only recourse may be the path of a “Destructicant!”

Until recently, Earth-10 was a world dominated by a Nazi regime that had reigned since its version of the Second World War. Luckily for everyone but the racist insurrectionists trying to topple the newly elected democratic government, Brother Power is at full strength. DART & THE GRIFTER #3
    written by AMRUTA PATIL
    art by DAVID LAFUENTE
    cover by BRETT BOOTH
card stock variant cover by BRETT BOOTH
The Stoneville A.C.E. outbreak and media coverage of Babe’s escape move up the timetable. Dart must split from her beau to put down the Eggite, in case he’s harboring a portion of the Dark Destroyer. That may take more firepower than she’d normally have on hand, but luckily former senator Firehawk owes her a favor. Meanwhile, Cole invokes the memory of Dean Higgins to reunite Team 7 for a mission to the Andes. While that’s enough for Kurt Lance and Michael Cray, Cash has to admit to Slade Wilson the true mercenary nature of the venture. It’s a good thing the plan is to leave the Earth, because if this all works out, that will be the best option to avoid the ire of Deathstroke the Terminator.
