Done-in-One Wonders Episode #7: Letter Late than Never

It is our first episode exclusively devoted to the Done-in-One Wonders Electronic Mailroom! However, this is the Done-in-One Wonders show, so one should expect much more than readings and responses to listener feedback. So how about the beginning of three new Xum Crew subplots? Or seven (uninvited) guest villains? Or secrets of the Xum Crew revealed – from the only time Xum picked a fight to Solomon Grundy’s secret preparations for going into battle with Superman? Plus… subtitles?!

Featuring: iTunes reviews and listener feedback from episodes 4, 5, and 6.

Music by Hoyt Curtin and the Manic Street Preachers.

With special thanks to Mike Staley, Aaron Moss, Clinton Robison, and Shag Matthews for providing additional voices.

  1. I love feedback shows!

I looked up eidetic memory, which you mention that you have. I didn’t realise ‘photographic memory’ hadn’t actually been proven to exist. I have Geek Memory… I can remember day, channel and time slots for pretty much any TV show I read about in the Radio Times or TVTimes of the Seventies, and issue numbers for most any story from the Bronze Age.

I bet most of the people reading have this. For example, without looking it up, I’m sure at least one regular here could identify this brief exchange from a 1970 DC comic:

    ‘ZOW! What’s that?’
    ‘Not what – who?’

  2. Leave it to Xum to put a narrative in a “simple” feedback show!

I checked Fire and Water’s spam folder and found a lot more supervillain applications, but out filter is obscurity-sensitive (to cut down Diabolu Frank’s comments to manageable size) so you never got the following:

    Scabbard
    Eyeful Ethel
    The Eraser
    Scramble the Mixed-Up Man
    Mod Gorilla Boss
    and the Beefeater

Well, I bet they wouldn’t have made it in anyway.

  3. I’ll admit, I was a little dubious about the idea of an all-feedback episode. But I should’ve known the Xum Crew wouldn’t let me down! So many funny bits scattered throughout. I have a special fondness for the more goofy and obscure Batman villains, so it was a special treat to have cameos by Polka-Dot Man, Cluemaster, and the Cavalier. Gotham City is in New Jersey? Well, that makes as much sense as anything, I suppose. After the heavier content of the previous episode, this was a nice palate-cleanser, setting us up for the adventures to come (Shag does a great Frank Welker-esque Darkseid!). Keep those episodes coming!

  4. Having a story within the feedback was delightful. Thank you for another fine show, Grundy. Tim Price looking forward to more, especially another meeting with other Grundy. Tim Price almost passed out laughing the last time.

But Tim Price is confused. Solomon Grundy says Tim Price talks funny? That’s strange. Nobody’s told Tim Price that before.

  5. I was a bit concerned after hearing all these villain applications to the show. While everyone seems to be getting along well, I worry about another Reverse-Flash incident. Perhaps you’d like to consider a hero instead? Might I suggest Vartox?
