  1. It’s great to have Cheers Cast back! That was a pleasant surprise to see it in my podcast feed!

I agree this episode is not one of the stronger season premieres. But I did get more out of it on this rewatch than I did in the past. I like the theme of how getting something you’ve always wanted can fail to meet expectations. This applies not only to Sam but to the series itself. After three years of Sam pursuing Rebecca, it’s almost like the show didn’t quite know what should happen after they finally got together. We’re sort of in new territory in terms of how Sam and Rebecca will interact going forward.

It’s pretty funny how no one believes Sam and Rebecca at the end. I noticed Frasier wasn’t there at the end. In the earlier scenes when Sam was about to tell everyone he slept with Rebecca but then talked about the shelves instead, Frasier looked like he suspected something was up or knew that Sam was covering up something. I thought it might have been an acting choice on Kelsey Grammar’s part. But given that Frasier is not in the final scene, it might have been written that Frasier knew Sam was covering.

As for your discussion of when Kirstey Alley was pregnant and had a miscarriage, I actually can remember hearing or reading about it in the early part of season nine. I thought the pregnancy or miscarriage was why she was missing or had a very small part in some of the episodes, including the second episode about Gary, basketball, and Kevin McHale. Of course, it is not unusual for her to have a minimal part in a Gary episode, but as I recall (not having rewatched it yet) she has only a cameo at most.

    1. Actually, to correct myself, I just looked again and Frasier actually was in the last scene, but he didn’t have a close-up or any lines. That’s probably why I thought he was at home with Lilith and Frederick!
