The minute the old man turned into the red Dragon, I immediately knew it was J”inn! Not because of the shape shifting, (although that’s a helpful clue,) but , because in the original justice league series, when you see their computer generated forms, J’onn turns into a dragon.
Ah, good point, and great catch!
Yes! Love the all-star approach to the episode! Wonderful job, all!
Thanks David!
Terrific finale, Cindy and Chris! I wasn’t watching JL or JLU when they aired, but have since watched them all with my kids. Your love for this series is infectious and really comes through in every episode. Congratulations on giving the League it’s deserved care and respect. Of course, I do agree with you both that Superman was nerfed in a lot of the early episodes, but he had his moments in some of my favorites: The Doomsday Sanction and the final episode.
Favorite episodes:
1. Destroyer
2. Question Authority
3. Double Date
4. Far from Home
5. The Doomsday Sanction
Favorite Characters:
1. Superman
2. Green Arrow
3. Huntress
4. Black Canary
5. Question
Thanks again for letting me be a small part of tis episode. You know I love closing out a show!
Thank you for your contribution Brett! Great list of favorite episodes, and I know at least a few of these will no doubt make it onto mine and Cindy’s personal favorite Top 5 of JLU! I will also cosign your favorite characters list.
Chris and Cindy – congratulations on a great episode to end a fantastic show. I was honored to be a small part of it. You guys really should be proud of all the work and joy you have put into this podcast. It shows!
While I am not sure I can rank my 5 favorites, I will def say that my favorite episodes were Double Date and This Little Piggy. In terms of characters, the amazing thing about this show was that so many of them had growth in their story arc. My favorite arc was for Wonder Woman.
Congrats again! Looking forward to the House of Franklinstein!
Thank you Paul, and thanks for helping out with the narration! Those two episodes are fan-favorites (and favorites of ours) for a reason…they’re just that good!
Diana did have a great arc on this series. I think her jubilant response to J’onn’s return is a good sign of how she slowly dropped that somewhat…stuffy facade she had in the first season of JL.
Great job, Cindy (and Chris)! What an achievement to wrap up the Justice League animated series. I know you’ve got more episodes coming, but this is a terrific run that you both should be proud of.
And more importantly, with this off Chris’ schedule, we can do Knightcast every day now.
Thanks Ryan! It’s surreal to think it’s almost over. But yeah, now I can just backlog Knightcast episodes with you so we can run until The Batman 2 finally goes into production!
Wonderful episode, and the all-star synopsis was just a joy to hear. Simply a great way to kick off the show.
I think my high points in Destroyer include: Diana flying a tank thru the space ship, Superman’s cardboard speech, Lex running away, Steel cosplaying Cap, Diana hugging J’onn and J’onn hugging her back, J’onn calling his sweetheart, and the JLI and JL Detroit homages.
Now about the 12th-level intellect thing, I don’t necessarily believe Lex has that or higher, but it doesn’t matter because he has a 37th-level ego.
I’ve seen too many grown men my age cheer at football games the same way that Atomic Skull shouted “YEAH!” Of course, I wouldn’t do that. I saved that cheer for Avengers: End Game with Cap lifting Mjolnir. You have to have priorities.
Ok, I wouldn’t call these my top 5 because I can’t choose between most of them, but can give 5 favorites if that’s close enough.
JL: Brave and the Bold parts 1 & 2, Eclipsed part 2, A Better World part 2, and Comfort and Joy
JLU: Flash and Substance, Greatest Story Never Told, Task Force X, Double Date, and Epilogue
Thank you for letting me part of your podcast in my little way. It’s been so much fun to revisit these series, and looking forward to the wrap parties. I’ll bring the Oreos.
Lex having a 37th-level ego is genius…and very accurate. Wish I had thought of that!
I’m with you on the Cap/Mjolnir scene in Endgame. I know I have said it many times before, but I defintely pulled an Atomic Skull, got out of my seat and yelled “YEAAAH!!!” We had a great crowd. Don’t judge me. Or do, I don’t care. I don’t regret it!
Great list that I’m nodding my head to as I read it. And thank you so much for being our guest this season! Oreos sound great! I’ll see if I can find some of those Keebler Superman movie “Strongberry” cookies that taste like Smurf Berry Crunch cereal. Yum!
“Strongberry” cookies. Mmmm-mmmmmmm!
The FW All-Stars were great!
Older Dani is not as emphatic as younger Dani, so I think I WILL sue Mommy and Daddy!
They were great, weren’t they?
Dani’s delivery and voice have matured. You’ll be hearing from Nelson & Murdock!
Congratulations on the excellent podcast series. Your discussions are always delightful & insightful.
I hope you’ll carry on in the future with Justice League Action. It’s aimed more at kids but there are some truly fun episodes in that run.
When all’s said and done, I think Batman: Brave & The Bold may be my favorite animated DC series. Its deep cuts into Silver Age DC Comics lore were inspired and the varied of guest characters made me smile each episode.
Thanks Chuck! No plans to cover Justice League Action. The way Cartoon Network chose to release that show was baffling, and I never got to watch much of it at the time. I’ve since caught some of it on YouTube, and honestly, I don’t love it. Despite Conroy and Hammil’s involvement, it’s just too…broad for me.
On the other hand I love Baman: The Brave and the Bold. At one time Cindy and I discussed covering that as a follow-up, but neither of us want to jump into an index show right now. Maybe one day we’ll change our minds, but I’m not seeing it as a future project at this point.
Late to the party, but thank you for this fantastic episode. The coverage from JLUCast has been brilliant from start to finish and what a Finish! I know you said you have a few more episodes up your sleeves and I am really looking forward to those. Thank you for all the work this series has put in, when you finally close the door it will leave a huge gap in my podcast listening!
Thank you Doug! That’s very kind of you to say. Yes, the plan is to have a couple more episodes to wrap things up before the end of the year. Stay posted! And keep those Monitor Tapes rolling. I’m really enjoying the show!
