Namor – This is a character who I’ve always read as an antagonist in someone else’s book, or as a member of the Avengers, so I’m used to him being the hot-tempered, head-strong one. I don’t know how he works as a protagonist, but I hear good things about his book done by Byrne, especially where the air/water imbalance is brought up as the reason for his moodiness.
Subterraneans – “Hey, Jack! We need some weird looking minions!” “No problem, Stan!”
Sunder – I honestly didn’t know this guy even had a name until just now. He’s always in the background as a Morlock enforcer.
Sunfire – Is Shiro the most underused, but still popular, of the X-Men? I don’t remember him being in very many comics, but his appearance on “Amazing Friends” made him super recognizable to my generation.
Sunspot – I haven’t read a whole lot of New Mutants, but Roberto’s seemed to be in EVERY ad due to his unique look. I like how he took over the Jubilee role of “new student” in X-Men 97.
(Note to self: Get sea shells when on vacation.)
Sub-Mariner: Man, the girls would really freak out of if you showed them some of those old Golden Age Schomburg covers were Namor looks like he had his head stretched in a rack…or had a head that would give Flattop a run for his money!
Subterraneans: The non-Moloids look a bit like the race Thor thought in his first appearnce. Very Easter Island.
Sunfire: I think he’s up there with Stingray for obscure, little used character with a really great look. And strangley both predominantly red and white!
Sunspot: As Gene mentioned above he featured heavily in X-Men ’97, and as a result a new action figure of him in this look was just revealed at SDCC. So good timing!
Sunfire: I have a running joke with him that he leaves any team faster than anyone.
Sunspot is really afraid of losing the people he loves after he lost his girlfriend in the New Mutants graphic novel.
Namor: He really grew for me in his 70s solo title. He stops being a jerk and begin to fight as an eco terrorist against global warming.
Both Namor & Thor are super arrogant, but I don’t mind it on Namor for some odd reason, & can anyone tell me why in the book Marvels he is naked when he goes to the surface world for the first time?
Great show, Squad! Tyrannoids look like court artist renditions of Moloids.
I missed a few episodes, so I get to do my favorite thing: binge niche comic book related podcasts from French-Canadians.
Some quick hits for the ones I missed.
Spider-Woman – Her quitting Freedom Force sounds like when someone leaves Twitter. “This place is kind of fascist!” Ha,ha. So topical! I haven’t lost a step.
Spiral: One of my favorite Hot Squad themes is trying to figure out how to hot a toxic lady. “On one hand, ewww, fascism, on the other, look at those arms!”
Sprite: Yes, The film Eternals was boring, but to be fair, The Eternals from the comics are also boring. My favorite line “I don’t want to date Peter Pan.”
Squadron Supreme – As a kid, this series bored me to death. Maybe I should try it out again. If just for the Curry Rice joke. I also loved the line “I don’t normally go for half robots.”
Starfox: I love how the hotsquad basically fell victim to his powers throughout this entry.
Starjammers – I’ve listened to about 10,000 hours of OHOTmu and im still always amazed and delighted by how much the squad loves weird human animal combo creatures that should not exist. “He’s a bug and a helicopter? sqweeeeee!”
Stingray – This was basically OHOTmu’s version of The Shape of Water.
The Stranger- His list of limitations on his entry makes him sound like genie from Aladdin and now I wish he introduced himself with a song.
Now for the latest episode.
Submariner – I always have to respect a guy willing to wear a speedo in public. Especially when you think about how cold the ocean can be.
Subterraneans – something creeps me out about all that exposed skin. These guys swarm people and its just all this yellow underground flesh pressing against you. Gross.
Sunfire – I always liked this costume. And also, very brave to have a guy with fire powers have a fiery personality. I don’t know how they come up with this stuff.
Sunspot – I always thought he looked cool. And also, more sun powers/anger issues. Where’s our jolly flamethrower?
Lastly, I’m sure labor with go fine for Amelie! When my wife and I had our kids I hardly felt a thing. Labor was easy. I watched The Office. I even napped a little during it. I don’t know what everyone complains about.
