This was one of my favorite Treasuries back in the day. You may not know this, but the Dick Tracy comics of the early 70s was a totally different animal. It had stories about people from the moon instead of hard nosed gangsters. Then this Treasury came out and I finally got to see why Chester Gould’s Dick Tracy was once a revered comic strip. It was a true hard boiled strip with shocking violence. The images of Tracy mowing down Flattop’s men with a tommy gun and bullets going through bodies was a portal to a time before the comics code and groups advocating against cartoon violence, This was story-telling with an edge. I read this one over and over, and thirsted for more. It wouldn’t be for over 35 years later that I would get to quench my thirst when IDW reprinted the original strips. Thanks for covering this Treasury.
