Great to see Kevin McHale and his wife Lynn. I checked his Wikipedia entry, and it mentions his two Cheers appearances. He has a great comedic presence for someone who’s not a professional actor.
That’s a great point that Norm seems out of character for being this enthusiastic about the Celtics and being in Boston Garden. And I forgot he was originally supposed to be from Chicago, which makes it weird that he refers to him and his dad going to Celtics games. You would think Ken Levine and David Isaacs, who wrote this episode, would know this given that they had a long history with the show, but maybe the new showrunners reworked some aspects of the original script that Levine and Isaacs wrote.
I’m guessing they filmed at Boston Garden while they were in Boston shooting a bunch of the cold opens.
This is a rare episode in which a Frasier and Lilith subplot is disappointing. They’re usually the highlight of any episode, and the actors elevate the material, but this B plot is such a repetitive one-note joke that there really wasn’t much even Kelsey Grammar and Bebe Neuwirth could do to make this subplot work.
Also, I can’t help but think I want to hear Paula Cole sing the title to this episode.
The Lilith-Carla standoff was pretty tense and funny. You never can tell how Carla will go: will she treat Lilith as a Diane stand-in, or give her respect for a good insult, or is Carla sensitive about her hair? Whatever the reason, it was fun especially with Lilith’s monotone delivery.
Kevin and Lynn absolutely stole the show. Lynn earned her “employee of the week” for her final scene at the bar by just saying “Kevin!” Hilarious!
