Great dual performance from Perlman. We don’t see a whole lot of that outside of genre shows!
A fine sitcom tradition of series’ actresses putting on wigs and playing relatives with startlingly different personalities. See both Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie!
Chris
CHEERS definitely played more fast and loose with the notions of reality in this early years. First we have Sam’s brother who we hear but never see, now we have Rhea Perlman donning a wig and playing her own twin!
As to this episode focusing more on the supporting characters–I’m sure for ratings it made more sense to keep writing Sam and Diane stories, but it’s also probably a bit of a cushion to know you have other members of the cast that can carry an episode in case the leads leave to do a movie, get sick, want to renegotiate their contract, etc.
Tim is always a welcome presence on the network!
Thank you, Rob! The check’s in the mail.
The same network of TV crossovers extends to Newhart as well. It all swallows itself in an infinite regress of alternating sushi-induced nightmares and autistic kid snow globe fantasies.
Sure I wish I was a “friend of the network”
LOL! You have it better: bro of the network!
