I thought the joke about Diane giving the boys money is that she expects “a couple of beers” to cover both. But Norm wants his own couple of beers.
You hit the nail on the head with Sam’s tastes. It feels like scripts are written and not amended to fit the actors sometimes. He always goes on about a girl’s “great body” even when the woman isn’t really showing it off, in baggy 80s clothes. But Kane has the same body type as Diane, so I guess that’s what he specifically likes.
While I agree that Carol Kane did not fit the profile of the kind of woman Sam usually pursued, she brought an off-kilter energy to the part that IMO keeps the character from being an insulting stereotype that maybe a lesser comedic actress would have brought to it.
Also, I think the whole episode is worth it for the way Kane, reacting to the news that Sam is the guy Diane has been talking about in therapy, says “Sam is Ralph?” almost like she’s Ralph Wiggum or something: This Just Does Not Compute.
TIm is crossing off his Fire and Water bingo card with extreme prejudice!
For those of you left on my bingo card, I’m ready.
