  1. When I first saw this one as a teenager, I remember it helping out my eventual future as a pedantic person who was obsessed over continuity errors in that it mentions someone being executed, when a previous episode (correctly) pointed out that Massachusetts doesn’t have the death penalty. Maybe they were reporting a story from a neighboring state.

  2. The rap is forever burned into my brain from when this originally aired. My brother and I STILL quote it to each other. Woody’s dancing along puts it over the top.

A great 2nd episode for the new era of Cheers. Does a great job making Rebecca a smart nemesis of sorts for Sam but also not the heavy/bad guy as she lets him go for the job as it’s a win/win for her. It’s always fun when Sam is on his own and the rest of the cast are not ‘with’ him.

  3. What a great episode! Sam’s commentaries are so funny and memorable. For a gag story, they pulled out all the stops.

We’re already getting some development of Rebecca as a character, first with the “either way I win” attitude, but then she goes out of her way to spare Sam’s feelings after the rap. She even is encouraging, and maybe this was mentioned, but as she walks Sam back to the group, Rebecca slyly waves her fingers to the gang with a “come on” motion for them to follow her lead. It’s *very* subtle, and shows sensitivity. Rebecca is absolutely not a one-note character, just fantastic.

Now here’s a weird thing. When “Little Sam” finishes the commentary by calling on the anchor, I know her name is Joanne, but it sounds like he’s saying “Diane!” Really, it’s because Sam is talking thru clenched teeth and can’t enunciate, plus my brain is half-expecting to hear “Diane”. So I have to consciously strain to remember the anchor’s name is Joanne. Weird, right?

What a way to start the season. Always glad to hear Paul, too!
