“You shouldn’t have moved your Cardinal, bub.” This line tickles me every time. I laugh out loud just thinking about it. Sam knows that chess piece has some association to the Catholic Church. “Bishop! It’s called a Bishop!” It’s such a fun episode. I enjoyed your retelling of it.

The gag about Woody buried in sand up to his neck was a perfect time for Sam to wince as a meta-reference to Ted Danson’s fate in Creepshow. But I guess meta wasn’t in vogue at the time.
This is a very fun episode. In an alternate version of the series, Robin could have somehow ended up as a regular at the bar like Frasier did. This episode gives a glimpse into Robin as a possible regular cast member and not merely recurring. Roger Rees was fantastic.
I thought the same thing about how no one was working at the bar when Rebecca and Woody were at the beach while Sam and Carla were in the pool room. The only head canon I came up with is maybe Carla was running back and forth between the bar and the pool room, but that’s a stretch.
