I agree this episode is fine but not as strong as what is coming up later this season. I was thinking the same as you guys that this is like a collection of B or C plots, which are funny enough, but none of them seems worthy of being the A plot. I think the A plot is supposed to be the Frasier/Norm/Cliff story, given the title of the episode and the amount of screen time devoted to it. But as you noted, that story was a sequel of sorts to a B plot from last season, and it doesn’t really seem to have the heft of a lead story.
The Sam/Woody story was quite funny. I love when Woody Harrelson takes over Woody Boyd by acting edgy or sarcastic, which he seemed to do a lot in this episode. It was cool seeing the stuntman dressed like Sam on location entering the bar. As you alluded to, I think there was also an early season episode where we saw a person entering from outside and then the same character is seen entering from inside.
That’s cool to hear that Kirstie Alley’s father was sitting with Phil Perlman behind Rebecca and Carla. I never knew that. This episode is an example of how Rebecca sometimes lacks much to do in later years.
When I used to get a haircut, my (now-retired) boss would say, “You got your ears lowered.” That’s the only time I ever remember hearing that phrase, so that makes sense that it’s an old-time joke.
It’s funny that Woody is cutting Sam’s hair given what we will find out later in the series about Sam’s hair.
And of course, in more recent times, it’s very common for guys to shave their head anyway, so it wouldn’t be such a big deal that Sam had to have his hair shaved. (I haven’t been to a barber shop in more than six years because I’m bald anyway and I started shaving my head by myself back when Covid started.)
Oh yeah, I meant to say it’s cool that Norm is now at 999 beers! I’m going to go out on a limb and predict he’ll hit 1,000 in the next episode! I remember back in the early years of Cheers Cast, I kept thinking about whether Norm would hit 1,000 beers. It seems like in the early seasons, Norm was just under 100 beers per season, and since there were 11 seasons, I figured he’d probably get to 1,000 in the final season. But as the seasons went on, he’s picked up the pace and will now top 1,000 halfway through Season Ten!
I just thought about the guys shaving their heads as part of the non-feud with Gary, where they “got themselves” by leaving the letters to spell Gary’s name on each of them. Something about hair keeps returning to this show.
