Great discussion and guests. I agree this is one of the more cringeworthy episodes from a modern lens. This is no defense of Sam’s attitude toward Rebecca, but it is sort of ridiculous that she expects him to sell her the bar when he just spent the last three seasons trying to get the bar back and finally has it. He obviously isn’t going to sell it to her. But that doesn’t excuse the misogyny he and Frasier display. I’m glad Rebecca was able to get at least some stake in the bar by contributing to the purchase of the pool room and restrooms, which as you noted, gives her character more of a purpose for still being there.
I have to say Ted Danson cracks me up in these later seasons when he does that maniacal laugh. It was funny how there was sort of an abrupt cut to Sam sitting at that table with the typewriter and just laughing to himself. He apparently has nothing better to do than type up fake letters to Rebecca!
