Hyperion to a Satyr: V.i. Ophelia’s Funeral

Hyperion to a Satyr – The Fire and Water Podcast Network’s Hamlet Podcast – continues Siskoid’s scene-by-scene deep dive into Shakespeare’s masterwork, discussing the text, but also performance and staging through the lens of several films, television, comics and even a rock opera. One response to “Hyperion to a Satyr: V.i. Ophelia’s Funeral

  1. I’ve always taken Gertrude’s favorable comments about Ophelia in this scene as an example of how one typically speaks respectfully of the newly dead even if it’s disingenuous. It’s considered tactless and undignified to call an @$$hole an @$$hole right after they die; it’s expected that you find something positive to say, perhaps for the grieving family or perhaps just so you don’t sound callous. I often wonder what will be said about Donald Trump when he dies (because I think of that often). Will his political enemies speak honestly about him, or will they try “to be the better [men]”?
