I thought Tiger Shark was a bigger deal because he was a cardboard figure in a Marvel game I had as a kid. Surprised the ladies didn’t mention his huge feet in his profile image. If the legend about what big feet equals is true…
I have to admit I started to like Tigra more the closer I got to puberty. I never thought of her having fur at the time, but of course she did. Not sure how I feel about that now, but I still like the visual.
I was wondering who drew the Tinkerer, because they really pulled off the Ditko vibe. Peter Poplaski has always been good at mimicing classic art styles. Just look at his covers for the Batman and Superman comic strip collections. He kind of looks like Abe Vigoda to me.
Man, those planet diagrams are just yawns. This is why Who’s Who is better.
Titania was created for the Secret Wars comic, which was only published to tie into the toy line, yet Titania was never even considered for the classic toy line. Hasbro recently made up for this by finally issuing a Titania figure in their 40th anniversary line. I always thought it was meant to be pronounced “Ti-tane-eee-a” myself.
Weird fact about the Titanium Man: He was the subject of a song by Paul McCartney and Wings titled “Magneto and Titanium Man”. Crimson Dynamo was also mentioned in the song!
Not done listening but had to immediately comment.
Girls” “The Tinkerer reminds me of an old Italian-American. He’s hot. ”
Me …. falls out of seat.
So you’re saying there’s a chance !!!!!
In the category of strange coincidences, I discussed two of this episode’s characters on my podcast recently, and one more will be coming soon. It’s not really a case of one writer flipping open a random OHOTMU, but it’s crazy to see “clumping” like that happen.
Tiger Shark: the one that will be coming soon. Hats off to the squad for calling out “his fin is in the wrong place.” I honestly never had noticed! I don’t think the “right” place would look as good. Comics have a history of fins on heads.
Tigra: There’s a panel in Avengers #213 which shows Tigra sleeping, curled up in a ball like a cat. It’s darn cute. I’m no good at sharing images in the comments, but I’ll post it on Bluesky to Siskoid.
Tinkerer: one I recently discussed, where his main role is giving a power-up to another villain. Notably, Tinkerer insists on giving said villain a written “warranty and maintenance instructions” for his work. Does that put him ahead of modern corporations?
Titania: another I discussed, and there will be more still. Of course I think she’s hot, but she’s a “love to hate” from when she beat up She-Hulk. Now that the two are frenemies, my stance has likewise softened. I usually pronounce it “Tie-Tay-nee-uh”, because in her first appearance, she names herself “like a Titan,” so that influenced my pronunciation. And yet, she hasn’t been to Titan herself.
Titanium Man: Like Chris, I was also thinking of Sir Paul’s song! The armor’s face does give a Have A Nice Day vibe.
I have always been a fan of Tigra She appeared in two very important Marvel issues of my youth – in flashback panels by John Byrne in Marvel Team-Up #61 and in the Fantastic Four #183 (which also began my love of Thundra). Meeeeeow!
Those led me to a niche portion of my collection I call ‘classic Tigra’ including the short-lived The Cat series, her transformation in Giant Sized Monsters, her brief run headlining Marvel Chillers, and some other sightings here and there in early Bronze comics. Count me as someone who prefers her without the tail. I think artists don’t seem to know exactly where it should be anatomically and it often just seems to be in the way.
I can think of a lot of artists I would have preferred doing this page over Will Meugniot but I suppose this is just fine.
Tigra is with Shanna and Night Nurse one of the 3 characters created by Marvel’s short lived (3 issues) experiment to give books to women writers in the 70s. She is also probably the biggest success of that attempt.
Tinkerer: In the Videogame Spider-Man Miles Morales by Insomniac they did something really interesting with that character.
my favorite Thinkerer moments is when a guy comes in and he clearly gets annoyed that a customer doesn’t want to pay him so he makes him a sucky power that’ll get him caught (Wheel for example) Exactly the energy the girls were describing.
I debated on whether or not to comment. I try to be positive and only comment on what I enjoy. In those pre-VCR, pre-internet days, we junior-high nerds only had our favorite female comics characters to lust after….every guy in our little group of nerds was mega-hot for Tigra. Everyone except me. I know I should like Tigra. She was in my first ever Fantastic Four, the previously mentioned 183., but….
I’ve always said I was to insecure to have a cat because cats are too mercurial. Tigra seems like she would be that way. What if you’re getting intimate with her and all of a sudden she decides she’s mad and scratches you with her claw hands and claw feet? The rough tongue might be a bit gross to kiss. I’ve watched enough sexy vampire movies that I would be ok with her fangs. Mainly, though, Tigra’s fur is my turn-off.
And what about Tigra’s nipples? Betty Ross grew plumage to cover her nipples when she was the half bird/ half human/ all Gamma Harpy. Are Tigra’s nipples covered with fur? Does someone get a hairball if he tries to….well, you know…enjoy Tigra’s nipples? Do Tigra’s nipples look like a human’s or a cat’s? The Aladdin Effect graphic novel showed Tigra with human-looking nipple pokies, but I still have questions. I confess in The Aladdin Effect, early teen me was extremely fascinated by She-Hulk and, especially, Storm’s nipple pokies instead of Tigra’s. Yes, I realize She-Hulk has green nipples, but exotically colored nipples wouldn’t bother me. Just furry nipples. Am I allowed to talk about nipples in the comments? I know the girls talk about penises, but it is their show.
I hope all of Tigra’s fans will accept my apologies. Enjoy what you like. If you want to make fun of me for crushing on Batgirl, go right ahead.
