The bracket:

Interesting conversation. I must say, the three of you did manage to sway my opinion on a couple of these women. Octopussy in particular.
It’s actually equally amazing how much you all agreed on many picks. Let’s face it, people are always debating on who was the best Bond, and there’s only 6 of them to choose from. Two of those six left the role so quickly it’s hard to judge them accurately against Connery and Moore who are the two most synonymous with the role of Bond. Then there’s the movies. If you look up the rankings of the Bond films the lists vary wildly. One list might be the exact opposite of the previous. So to agree so closely with the wide range of Bond Girls really justified the rankings. Even if I do disagree.
Thanks for a very entertaining episode.
I was thinking of inviting Ryan Blake on one of my shows sometime but then he just voted against Melina Havelock so there went that.
To have or not have Havelock. There is no question!
Real Lucy football moment.
A very enjoyable listen, and overall, a bracket exercise I can get behind (which is saying something). There were no WTF moments like the Trek bracket where Kirk is eliminated in Round 1, thank goodness. Separating the characters and the performances from the films (and even the Bond they were playing against), and keeping the time the film was produced in mind was definitely well considered. Great job to DJ Nath, Ryan and Siskoid!
I’m EVOLVING!
Very good show and conversation and I agree with Siskoid that when I first looked at the bracket I said ‘This is Tracy v. Vesper in the finals’. But hearing all the other pros and cons to get there was fascinating.
I also say it says much more about me than the movies that I would have voted Xenia Onatopp pretty far, even perhaps thinking she could/should get to the finals. Hearing you all talk about her made me pause. It probably explains my historical lovelife!
I relate, I am definitely a Xenia guy. Or, let’s face it, a May Day guy.
My favorite Bond girl is Luciana Paluzzi’s Fiona Volpe from Thunderball. I knew she didn’t have a chance to win the bracket since…well, she wasn’t in the bracket.
My fondness for her aside, Fiona was the first sexy femme fatale in the series (well, unless you have a weird thing for Colonel Klebb), so I think that makes her iconic. I’m more fond of Thunderball than most people, because it ranks in my top five favorite Bond movies. Every Bond fan has his or her own taste.
If you’ve ever had any interaction with Ms. Paluzzi, you would realize what a great acting job she did. Fiona is evil to the core, but Ms. Paluzzi is a real sweatheart.
Full disclosure: I have had zero interactions with ANY Bond girl.
Happy with how this turned out. Though Melena was my second fave.
