You guys have some interesting takes on the DC reboot. Ryan came up with some unique twists on his lists. His take on Flying Fox, however, had already been done. In DC’s golden age, they had several aviator war heroes and adventurers. One of them was Rex Darrell, who was known as the Flying Fox.
By the way, I believe the timeline of the New History of the DC Universe stated he is now part of the new continuity.
I went a little more traditional in my first book.
Electric Warrior is a renegade Thunderer from the antimatter dimension of Quoard. He was exiled because of his unorthodox belief that society should help people. So he traveled to the positive matter universe. During his journey through the Bleed, he was buffeted by forces that charged his body with electrical power. Now he is no longer reliant on artificially created thunderbolts but has the power to generate electricity by himself. Although, he still keeps the Thunderbolts on hand as a backup.
Gold Star: I’m gonna dig deep for this one. DC’s first attempt at an ongoing romance character was April O’Day. She only had a couple of appearances. In the reboot, I would do very little to change her. She is still a struggling actress who becomes an “overnight success” after years of striving. But her big breakthrough comes as the result of a wardrobe malfunction caught on camera that goes viral on social media.
The all ages book follows how she deals with life as Hollywoods’ latest “golden girl” and her fears of losing her new found fame as quickly as she gained it. She’s not related to Angel O’Day, because Angel and the Ape don’t exist in this universe.
Fay Gunn. An assassin nun working for an ultra secret organization. While not on assignment, she runs an orphanage. As the series goes along, she may become suspicious of her employers true agenda.
Great episode as always.
The ‘replacements’ concept even hit me as I looked at the issue. Had I been asked to do this episode, I would have embraced it. Every ‘hero’ entry that I had to recreate, I would make a villain book. Dr. Mid-Nite as a physician using medical knowledge to patch up criminals or kill people without a trace writes itself. Dynamite as a bank robber specializing in explosives is also cool. And then my ‘bonus villain’ book would be a hero. The Cheetah as a speedster hero makes good sense.
As for my single book entry in the comments (as I am wont to do)
The Dome by Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber
Reuniting the zany Jimmy Olsen team for another bizarre look at the DCU. During a crisis event, the Legion of Doom HQ from the Super Friends universe is flung into the main DCU. A swamp hiking guy finds ‘The Dome’ abandoned. With no one on this Earth knowing of its existence, the guy tries to utilize the tech he finds there to commit crimes and become rich. But the strange cartoonish weapons there (a giant creating ray, a device that puts Bizarro and Cheetah heads on people) never pan out as intended. Battling a different DC hero every issue with something outlandish, this book will bring the actions and the laughs.
You and your crime doctors, Anj!
you had to be tough to call yourself “Doll man in 1941
Truly some magic, my friends! I loved this episode and hope you team up again soon. Always love these alternate takes on these characters/titles.
