For the head of the studios where every one works
That’s hard since time travel is involved in this show . I’m going to cast Tim curry as the boss or Jim Varney .
And here’s a question for you if the blue devil was to watch find his joy what sci-fi series does he watch in his spare time or do think he’s more of fan of something like Ted or does he watch who’s the boss and doll house ?
Wel first off great episode Yadda Yadda,
Now to the important part of the show… Frank likes me he really likes me! I mean sure there was a great comic being discussed with a crazy plot which I didn’t think of political so much as Pre Crisis Lex Luthor style Caper to end up with beach front property in Arizona. I am also disappointed that after the whole explanation about how the shoes worked – no-one make a “waiting for the second shoe to drop” joke. But all of that is incidental to the main plot that I have managed to impress Frank!
Anyway now I am in dangerous territory… Will it all go downhill from here? Well…. I think not! Because I have the perfect casting for the 80’s version of Jock Verner…
Jack Warden.
Star of 80’s hit Father Son Comedy show ” Crazy like a fox” and also appeared in my favourite Football film “The Replacements”
A contemporary version however I think needs to echo the wild craziness of Hollywood Studio heads and I give you Ricky Gervais. I know Gervais is an acquired taste but it’s because so many people are polarised about him he is spot on for the head of a studio.
Did I do okay Frank? Did I? Please Frank did I land it?
Oh well in for a penny in for a pound..
Marvel Crossover you said? There is one which absolutely springs to mind which I dare say would bring some real will they won’t they energy – She Hulk and Blue Devil. Finally Jen has someone who is almost as tall as she is, who is funny and didn’t ask to get dragged into all this vibe. The premise is simple She Hulk would be Dan’s Lawyer in some case with the Studio likely Dan trying to claim ownership of the suit etc. The court house would have some sort of Super Villain escape – my money would be on Volcana getting sprung by Titania or the other way round. Fist fights and chaos follow and the Blue and Green mix together very well with a real spark between them…..
So there you go…. In all seriousness this episode was a joy to listen to. And I totally understand why the coverage speeds up after this point. The BD series is changing gears somewhat and while the series is still fun, it does feel from here on in there a bit of the spark missing. Like that awkward second album syndrome sure you like the new but you miss the older energy from the original band line up!
Thankfully while the comic band might be shifting we still have the original Frank and Shag on coverage so looking forward to the next one.
When I was preparing to read this issue in DC Universe Infinite, it tried to place Blue Devil Annual #1 between issues #8 and #9. Obviously it wouldn’t have made sense to actually cover the annual at that time, but since it sounds like you’ll be moving on to issue #10 next time, I have to ask. Do you plan on including the annuals at some later point?
You know it doesn’t say much for the supervillain organization when the most competent member is Bolt. I mean, according to Trickster, they didn’t want to use earthquakes to secede California from the US, but tearing a huge land mass up into the sky would still be massively destructive regardless. But yes, this is a Verner Bros cartoon, so taking it seriously is counterproductive. I do think the last panel should have had a porcine version of Jock Verner saying Th-th-th-that’s all, folks!
I did like lots of the art in this issue. The image of Trickster huffing and puffing to run in the air with only one shoe cracks me up. Danny’s exasperated facial expressions were on point throughout. I mean, of course I’d prefer Paris Cullins, but I felt this was a solid effort matching the book’s tone.
Gosh, with speeding up the coverage, this means you’ll get to my first issue sooner! (Yes, you still haven’t reached it. I was a johnny-come-lately.)
