Hey there, high-flyers, and strap in for a very special episode of The Death-Defying Human FlyCast! This time around Max interviews the Rocketman himself, stunt engineer Ky Michaelson! Ky designed stunt gear still being used today, has set numerous records, and designed and built the Human Fly’s rocket cycle! We’re talking about the motorcycle the Human Fly used in his ill-fated bus jump on that cold Montreal night in 1977. Find out how it all started with a phone call, and ended with a crash no one thought the Fly could survive! But … did he?
Let’s get wild!

Fascinating and amazing all at once, Max. Great job! My thanks to you and to Ky for doing this for us.
Great interview, Max! I suspect that you’ll be fitted for a cape and bellbottoms any day now!
This was a great episode, and I’m truly impressed at the legwork it must have taken to track Mr. Michaelson down for this. And good on him for wanting to be part of it. It was impressive he remembered as much as he did, considering we’re talking 40+ years ago.
I love how, uh, confident let’s say The Human Fly seemed to be when calling people he wanted to work with him. Be the change you want to see in life, and all that.
Really impressed Max, this is a watershed moment for the show.
Such a great podcast.
Ky kept holding his tongue which made this mysterious figure even more mysterious. The implied ‘collect the insurance money’ plot sounds like an Law & Order episode.
I loved this. At times it felt like a fever dream.
What a great interview! I love how you went off the normal comic book coverage and delved into the ‘real’ life Human Fly mythology.
Great work, Max. The legend keeps getting more complicated!
Great episode Max. I loved the interview. Fascinating stuff. You wonder if there was a guy with a gun and a hook for a hand in the audience that day to make sure they collected their life insurance ….
Very impressive work, Max.
This was a fasciniating conversation Max! It’s interesting to hear that maybe the Human Fly folks weren’t quite as…altruistic and high-minded as Mantlo’s comics made the Marvel version out to be. The whole thing sounds extremely shady! Mr. Michaelson sounds like one of those people who has a wealth of stories to share that everyone should hear. Thank you for getting him on the show. Well done!!!
What a fantastic interview, Max! What a great guest to hear some amazing stories of the Human Fly. Some of these stories sound crazy enough to be one of the stories in the comic! I feel like you are getting closer and closer to having the real Human Fly on the show!
Keep up the great work!
Left some comments about Dark Shadows on the May 13 2022 episode. You can read them on there. I just thought I’d post on here to
repeat that a very bad edit of the unaired 2004 unaired pilot is available on YouTube. Or at least it was as of last week.
