  1. I really enjoyed the meandering conversation around this issue; it truly was like a chat on the porch of a cabin in the mountains. And I remember having this issue, as I was a pretty regular reader of Marvel 2-in-1 at this point. However, the part that sticks in my memory the most is that excellent scene at the beginning when Namor goes shopping. He was so hilariously overbearing; I loved the bit when one of the clerks says something about getting the manager when he makes his grand entrance, to which he replies, “See that you do!”
On the question of subscriptions, interesting that you picked Ka-zar, Rob, because I have to inform you that I indeed had a subscription – I used to love that series and hated that it did not always appear on the spinner racks in my neck of the woods. Once it went direct-market only, I felt compelled to subscribe. And yes, to back up what Brett said, they did arrive in pretty good condition inside a brown paper wrapper, but usually folded in half.

By the way, the Bill Foster sub-plot, which became the main plot, played out over the next four or five issues. And I should note that at this point – ever since the Project Pegasus saga in fact – Bill was going by the name Giant Man, not (Black) Goliath.

  2. I had never read this issue but by the end the story seemed so familiar. Was this the basis of the What If story about “What if the Thing and Beast Had Continued to Mutate”?

  3. Great conversation gentleman. Marvel Two/In-One is one of my favorite Bronze Age titles. I love Team-Up, but MTIO always seemed like it was having more fun. Thing’s membership in The FF opened him up to more cosmic spanning stories like MTIO 75, which has one of Thing’s best poker games ever. FYI, Spectacular Spider-Man #21 published in 2005 featured an issue long private superhero poker tournament, where the pot would go to the winning heroes charity of choice. It’s a must read for those who love seeing the heroes hanging out together.
As always I loved hearing both of you reminisce about comics past and experiences as kids loving comics and hitting the road for vacations.
Let’s also raise a glass to the great character actor Burt Young who along with Tony Burton are the only actor besides Stallone to appear in all 6 Rocky movies. Until next time, enjoy that fresh mountain air and keep the Yoo-Hoo! chilled.

  4. Great show, Rob and me. Just a magnificent back and forth, like Frost/Nixon with Yoo-Hoo. Speaking of which; I tried a squeeze box of Yoo-Hoo with a shot of Baileys and blended it with a few ice cubes. It’s an awesome frothy night cap for enjoying on the back porch as the sun goes down over the lake. Okay, I better get this Columbia 10-speed out of site before the heat catches up with me. Thanks again for having me on the show, it was a blast! See you next time!
