  1. Gosh, these episodes are coming thick and fast. I did enjoy this discussion, especially the general chat before the main business came in (though the story detail chat was fun too).

I’ve reviewed most issues of this series at my blog, but notice I passed this time – I must have been very het up about the ‘one-yard line’ reference. Thanks for the clarification, Ryan – all I know about sport I learned from Peanuts cartoons. ‘Slide, Kara Zor-El, SLIDE!’

Nice one, Ryan, that Deathstroke beating the Justice League in Identity Crisis bit always irritated me, it was utterly ludicrous.

And thank you Anj, for the Batman Who Bores reference… how appalling to see Mark Waid use him, at least as a visual, in the current crossover between this series and Justice League Unlimited.

So far as putting villains on screen who’ve not been there yet, Anj, you’re fine with Killer Moth, he did originally start out as a Batman bad guy, so much so that in fact he was meant to be the ‘anti-Batman’. So have you gone off Doctors Tzin-Tzin and Crime?

The Batman villain I’d love to see is Nocturna, complete with evening wear and blue skin – at least I think we haven’t seen her, I’ve not seen a Batman film since Batman Begins. I laughed at his inability to turn his head in a car park, and the ridiculous voice and never went back.

Superman-wise, yes to Brainiac, but also, how great would Terra Man look, chaps, spurs and flying horse Nova?

Who would we like for Vartox, Ryan? Well, if we’re going the Sean Connery route, Jack Lowden of Slow Horses fame can certainly give us the Scottish charm. And I expect he has the legs for those stripey keks.

My favourite Supergirl costume remains the Seventies blouse and hot pants combo, and definitely with slippers, not the boots – I liked the way the titchy shoes extended her legs. And the hot pants should be slightly puffy, they became too skintight during the Superman Family run.

    1. To quote a great man, one more thing… Chris mentioned that Chuck Dixon made the connection between Dick taking the name ‘Nightwing’ and the Kandorian legend, but that was actually Marv Wolfman when he debuted the identity in Tales of the Teen Titans #44. I double checked via Nightwing #30, suffering the pain of an inexplicably popular artist.

      1. I may have slightly mispoke there Martin, but I did indeed know Marv made that connection. Believe me, I have those first panels of Dick becoming Nightwing from TotTT #44 well-memorized! Formative!

        1. By the way, before you do the Mark Waid and Chris Samnee series, how about an episode devoted to Dan Jurgens and Mike Perkins’ The Batman: First Knight, which was spectacular, and is soon to get a sequel.

          1. I just read that series a few weeks ago and I loved it! It’s on my list of books I’d like to cover, but I’m not sure we’ll get to it right away.

  2. If I can kinda go off subject for a little bit since the subject of dc dogs . Came up did the Martian Manhunter had a dog for in issue of detective comics issue #232 .in his civilian identity he rescues a stray basset or blood hound who becomes attached to him and saves him he names Jupiter sadly the dog doesn’t appear in comics agin maybe James Gunn could do somthing with character have the the Martian man Hunter and Jupiter be k-9 officers .
Sorry the side track it’s with so many dc pets it’s weird he’s never made a come back .
Krypto needs more dog fiends .
Secret question who is the best hero pet in the dc universe and who is best villains pet in the dc universe.!

  3. Outstanding discussion of the conclusion to this story arc, gentlemen! Michael was a great guest, as always.
I recall when I first read it thinking – Oh, Superman will take the PZ projector in, but then won’t Nezha have it? The point of him trusting Batman to figure it out and release him was brilliant and cemented the excellent friendship which I think is fantastic.
Can’t wait to see what’s next!
