Oh, Ryan. You were sooooooooo close, but this episode’s MVP was clearly Siskoid.
It was?!
I really enjoyed how you covered this unique episode. This was the first time I had watched the 200th episode in many years. Like you, I taped it when it originally aired. I remember how much I enjoyed it, including the montage when they played the full theme song, which I had never heard before that.
That’s a good point that Shelly Long only speaks the one time, when they’re discussing Coach. I never even realized that until now. There definitely seemed to be some awkwardness between her and the rest of the cast at that point. In more recent years, Ted Danson has repeatedly praised Shelly Long and said she’s the reason he was hired, given that they were paired together in the auditions. I think he’s also suggested that she basically carried the show in the first season and that Diane was the most important character at that point. But I suspect that in 1990, there may have still been some hard feelings both about her leaving and how the rest of the cast, other than Nick Colasanto, had sort of excluded her.
That’s a great point that they should release the full panel discussion, since we see so little of it!
Cheers to Cheers Cast on its 200th! Looking forward to Cheers Cast’s 400th!
The full panel discussion would be amazing.
I thought folks might enjoy this music theory breakdown of the Cheers Theme, which popped up on YouTube this morning : https://youtu.be/ee74hDV6BRw?si=TaPTh66TH6m4lyjI
That was really great to watch. I only understood about a third of what he was saying, but I loved it. Thanks for sharing.
